Dedicated to extreme close-up imaging, the Canon RF-mount Laowa 25mm f/2.8 2.5-5X Ultra Macro from Venus Optics is a specialized macro lens for photographing subjects at magnifications greater than life-size. Operating within a 2.5:1 to 5:1 range, this lens has a minimum focus distance of just 6.8" at the 5:1 magnification along with a comfortable 1.6" working distance. This range is benefitted by the wide-angle focal length, too, in order to achieve greater depth of field compared to long focal length macro lenses. Complementing the close-up capabilities, the optical design incorporates one extra-low dispersion element to reduce color fringing and chromatic aberrations for a high degree of clarity. Additionally, distinguishing itself from other macro lenses, this 25mm f/2.8 is characterized by its notably sleek and lightweight design for easier handling and more room to work with artificial lighting.
- RF-Mount Lens/Full-Frame Format
- Aperture Range: f/2.8 to f/16
- One Extra-Low Dispersion Element

Venus Optics Laowa 25mm f/2.8 Ultra Macro Reviews
My First Macro Lens
This was my first introduction to macro lens and photo stacking. I am now a Venus Optics Laowa fan and purchased one of their fish-eye lenses. This macro lens is a small but powerful lens that is of good construction. I am using it on my Sony camera, and it also works with the Sony 2x Teleconverter which gets you 5x to 10x magnification overall. I was also able to include the FotodioX Macro Bellows (2x magnification) to create a Frankenstein macro lens, which ended up with a 20x magnification with some minor vignetting. This is getting me ready for the Laowa Ultra-Macro lenses in the future.
Great 2nd macro lens
If you are looking for your first macro lens look at some of other laowas offering, like their 2:1s. This was my second macro lens after cutting my teeth on the 60mm 2:1. Getting that extra magnification makes for some awesome shots but it definitely ups the skill requirement. My first shoot with this really highlighted some of my bad habits amd it really made me work to get better shots. My second and third sessions went much better and i love the things i can see with this lens that even my 2:1 doesn't show.
