A high-capacity 5000mAh 21700 battery drives the Cree XHP35 HI LED to output the darkness-piercing 1500 lumen turbo output. In addition, three other outputs are available, from a low of 30 lumens to a high of 500 lumens. The HT18 comes with the high-capacity 21700 rechargeable Li-ion battery, but in a pinch you can use standard 18650 batteries with the included battery carrier.
For navigating and performing tasks at night without affecting night-adjusted vision, you have a choice of installing either the red or green filters that are included. Red is a standard color that won't disturb your neighbors and is comfortable on the eyes for close-range use. Green is virtually undetectable by many animals and is easier to see at longer ranges than red, so it's good to use when you're setting up your blind or signaling to your hunting partner down the trail. A traditional tailcap switch provides instant access to the momentary and constant-on activation, while a second switch on the handle gives you access to the output selection and disorienting strobe.
Built to handle the rigors of the trail, the housing is made of tough and lightweight 6061-T6 aluminum treated with a Type III hard anodized finish that resists scratches and abrasions. O-rings seal the housing to bring it to an IP68-rating, making it dustproof, waterproof, and submersible. A double-spring battery-retention system, coupled with the durable LED, allows the light to withstand drops of over 3 feet so it will be able to handle the abuse of everyday use. To make carrying it easier when you're heading into the field, Fenix includes a nylon holster.
