Shure MX202 Overview

The white MX202WP-AN Overhead Microphone, No Cartridge from Shure is a small, unobtrusive microphone with a plate-mounted preamp that is attached to a flexible, 4" gooseneck with a 30' cable. It can be used when paired with interchangeable omnidirectional, cardioid, or supercardioid condenser microphone cartridges (sold separately) to capture high-quality audio in various environments and offers easy installation in ceilings for sound reinforcement performance applications.

The microphone is most stable when the gooseneck is bent into a "lazy S" shape. Use the supplied hanging clip and/or heavy thread or monofilament fishing line to suspend the microphone at a specific location. For choir installations, hang about 2 to 3' in front of the first row and 2 to 3' over the heads of singers in the last row.

Worked better than expected for a Zoom room.

I was not hopeful that this mic would be sensitive enough to pick up all the individuals on a conference table that measures about 20' by 10'. I was happy to be wrong because it was the only solution I could come up with to meet my VIP users' demands. I paired it with a Shure USB/XLR adapter for use with Zoom. It picks up even the people who are facing away from it. The Zoom noise algorithm took care of the background noise due to the needed high sensitivity setting. It comes with a white wind screen that is not needed for my application, but it was an appreciated detail. The mic looks very clean hangs about 3' above the table top and is inobtrusive on the far end video.

Used the mic on the included stand mount on a boom. Worked great for miking the dramatic scenes at the Christmas pageant. Kept the scene contained in a 8 foot radius of the mic. For EQ in the space it was in used the mid-sweep feature on the mixing board to 'roll off' the 600 hertz frequency's. Along with the 'low'. You will most likely have to adjust some eq for your space this is the reason I gave it a 4 star. If you are using a boom mic on a wooden step or frame and people are walking on that step you might need to have them enter another way of use a rug or something to 'shock-mount' the stand to prevent picking up the footstep sound. Overall you cannot go wrong with this mic for the price.

Yes. The Shure MX202W-A/C Microflex Overhead Cardioid Microphone with Stand Mount Adapter and XLR Connector is a condenser microphone and therefore requires phantom power.

This mic does not include a windscreen. If you needed a windscreen, these are compatible BH #SHRK183WS.

What's the best mic stand to use for this? Ceiling mount isn't feasible right now. Also, would you recommend a wind screen?

If you want to use the Shure MX202BC on a tabletop you can use something like B&H# AUTT6220B with the stand mount hardware that is included with the microphone.

This mic terminates in to a ta4f connection, and included with the mic is an in-line pre-amp that converts ta4f to XLR male 3 pin.
