The 7.5" Kirk LRP-3 Multipurpose Rail provides a sliding long aluminum plate solution to any head equipped with an Arca-type clamp. Its dual dovetail plate enables attachment to any Arca clamp or head and the topside dovetail allows a flash or other accessories with an Arca connection to be attached as well. It provides about 7.5" movement range, ideal for fine-tuning during macro and close-up photography. In addition, the dual clamp enables you to mount to the rail in 90° intervals for a camera or a collard lens, which now allows bidirectional control. Once you have positioned the clamp in the desired direction, the included hex key stores inside the clamp.

How does this device attach to a tripod?
How does this device attach to a tripod?
It screws on to the head of a tripod or if you have an Arca compatible head, it will just slide in the head.

Does this fit directly and lock into the ...
Does this fit directly and lock into the Manfrotto 500AH or is another arca swiss clamp required as a bridge between Manfrotto and this rail?
Not directly, in other words it is not a replacement for the Manfrotto plate that comes with the MVH502AH. However, for a less expensive solution than the Kirk bridge described below, I attach a SmallRig Arca-Type Quick Release Baseplate BH #SM2143B to the MVH502AH plate and it makes the 502AH Acra Swiss compatible. One thing I'll note is that this solution does not work if you use a thumb screw type baseplate because there isn't enough clearance for the thumb screw so you need the quick release lever type.

If this is mounted vertically on a copy stand ...
If this is mounted vertically on a copy stand (for use as a "microscope" setup), would the action be smooth and precise, even at 4x magnification? It would be a working distance of about 10mm from microscope objective to subject. This would be a ≈5lb. camera/lens setup attached to this rail. Thank you!
Absolutely not! The LRP-3 is simply an arca-Swiss sliding connection with no micro adjustment capability.
