Sony UX570 Overview

The black Sony ICD-UX570 is a compact digital voice recorder offering built-in and external storage, a fast-charging internal battery, and cableless USB connectivity. Compared to the ICD-UX560, this model features an enlarged OLED display, a wider recording LED, and auto-recording modes for voice and music sources.

With a highly sensitive S-Microphone system and MP3/LPCM recording capabilities, the ICD-UX570 lets you capture speeches, meetings, lectures, and music, clearly and conveniently. The Auto Voice Recording and Auto Music Recording settings ensure that your audio will be crisp and free of distortion.

Since the ICD-UX570 features built-in microphones and an integrated speaker, you can use it without any additional equipment. It also sports 3.5mm jacks to accommodate an external microphone and your favorite headphones.

Don't Buy! Bad Model Upgrade!

This new model is a complete loser compared to the older discontinued ICD-UX560. Sony used to make the best digital recorders. This model proves they are no longer serious about it and just trying to dress up an older model with minor changes and pass it off as an upgrade. The real upgrade here is in price which eliminates any value at all. The ICD-UX560 was $129 and this replacement model is $174.99 which is an outrageous price jump on the same core product with the same core features. Outside of the larger LCD screen, the other tweaks in this new model are minor and a joke. Even with a larger LCD screen, Sony downgraded the VU Meters displaying the metering for more precise control over distortion and visually seeing 0db. The newer dumbed down display is less on details like that. There also are issues like the battery not being as good as the older model. Specs differences are around 3-5 hours less depending on use. Apple for apple or feature for feature, the older and new models are almost identical except the price jump. Same storage, 4GB and less recording flexibility. The mp3 bit rate options for recording on this model are only 3 between 48 and 320 while it will play back anything from 48 to 320. Again, you can't choose the recording bit rate except for the 3-bit rate options. If you are recording from an external source, the impedance of the 3.5 microphone input is not a true auxillary input level and you don't get quality results, here, either. You'd think they would have improved that! The most irritating thing about this model is not only the $50 price jump for almost identical electronics they offered at $129, but, it is another example of how Sony is no longer serious about making the best digital recorders. Sony just discontinued the higher end model, the PCM-A10 which had bluetooth and sold for $219. So, now Sony no longer offers a premium bluetooth feature at any price and no longer offers the ICD-UX560 at $129. They offer less models and less value and should not be rewarded for taking an older model like the ICD-UX560 and dressing it up and charging $50 more. My suggestion is to find another manufacturer that is still serious about digital recorders and you should start with alternatives like Olympus.

I used a competitor's product before discovering this. Features and reliability make it 100 times better. Battery life and memory are great, although I did add a micro SD memory card to store more data.

Does Voice Operated Recording work if using the 1/8" input jack, or just the microphone? Really need this if it can do it through the input.

Can I record from a device with a Line Out, or will that signal be too strong for the microphone input?

I noticed in the external mic settings there are 2 sensitivity levels, mic input and audio input. According to the Sony chat rep, the audio in option is good for line level input. Didn't try it out.

The manual states that it is compatible with AAC 48 kHz. Is that for recording and playback, or only for playback of imported files?

This recorder can only record up to 44.1kHz, and can playback files up to AAC 48kHz.

Yes, basically. I have several folders, each with unique names that I assigned by creating and naming them while I had the recorder connected to my computer. (Folders can be created in-device with different names, but using a computer gives me greater flexibility in naming.)
