Key Features
  • Essential for Accurate Astrophotography
  • Three Ports for Cameras & Accessories
  • Multi-Layer Aluminum-Coated Flip Mirror
  • Precise Adjustments for All Light Paths
The Alpine Astronomical Baader FlipMirror II Star Diagonal solves multiple problems often experienced by astrophotographers in a single easy-to-use and easy-to-customize unit. This multiport diagonal features a straight-through light path for your camera, a top port for eyepieces or video cameras, and a bottom port that accepts a dedicated off-axis guide camera mount. A simple flip mirror directs the light to the top port when flipped down and allows the light to pass straight through when flipped up. The mirror surface is multi-coated with a highly reflective aluminum coating to ensure high-resolution images, and the back of the flip mirror is also aluminum coated and masked to direct the light of an optional calibration lamp onto the slit of a spectrograph.

Alpine Astronomical FlipMirror II Overview

Using this flip mirror star diagonal allows you to mount multiple critical accessories and gear without the need to remove and remount it, which wastes time and can cause the telescope to move out of its alignment. To ensure the light path is optically aligned with your gear, the diagonal has an array of adjustments, with tools included to make them. The positioning and design of the dedicated off-axis guider mount for the bottom port will not be affected by the mirror position, so your guide scope system will continue to function as normal regardless of what you're doing with the back and top ports. To help manage and mount your gear, the FlipMirror II comes with an array of rings and adapters, plus caps for all the ports so you can close any of them off when you're not using them.

Ports:
  • Straight through light path (S52, M48, and T-2 threads on both sides) for full-frame camera, spectrograph, or other instruments
  • Adjustable T-2 thread on top for eyepiece clamps, video modules (up to 32mm image circle), or even a binoviewer
  • Bottom port for the optional Off Axis Guider mount or for an optional calibration lamp for quick calibration of spectra without removing the spectrograph

Alpine Astronomical FlipMirror II Reviews

Exquisite precision

This piece has the expected but most welcome precision machining typical of Baader products, and the amazingly extensive family of accessories and adapters makes it universally applicable. However, so many possibilities means there is a learning curve to making appropriate choices. I am still fighting through my confusion, but I recommend it enthusiastically.
