  • Selectable Cardioid or Omnidirectional
  • NOS Telefunken 800 Series Tube
  • BV8-Clone, Dual-Bobbin Transformer
The Golden Age Premier GA-47 MKII is a handmade, large-diaphragm, tube condenser microphone designed to deliver a tone inspired by the renowned U47 studio microphone for vocalists, musicians, and recording engineers in home, project, and commercial studios. The MKII version features heavier metal work and an updated travel case. Like the original U47, the GA-47 MKII utilizes a removable capsule design that allows you to switch out the actual capsules in order to achieve different polar patterns and different sounds. Because the format of the connection is the same as the original U47, you can actually use vintage U47 capsules with the GA-47 Extended, or vice versa: you can use the more modern GA-47 capsules on a vintage U47 body.

Golden Age Project GA47EXT Overview

The mic ships with the GA-47 Extended HV capsule head, which uses an M7/K47-style, vintage-style capsule. However, you can also use the GA-47 Extended HM capsule, which offers a K67-style capsule with a brighter and more modern tone. Whichever you choose, you'll note the polar pattern switch on the front of the microphone below the grille as well as an aviation-style cable socket for an authentically vintage look.

As with the original GA-47, this module utilizes carefully selected components, such as an NOS Telefunken 800 Series tube, a BV8-clone dual-bobbin transformer, pain-staking point-to-point wiring, and gold-plated connectors, the sum of which is a sound that aims for the essential qualities of a vintage U47. The supplied XLR 7-pin proprietary mic cable boasts 99.99% pure oxygen-free copper, Teflon insulation, and high braid density. The GA-47 Extended includes a power supply, shockmount, wood microphone case, and tweed-style flight case.

Sturdy Housing
The microphone body in the GA-47 MKII has been updated with heavier metal work to ensure long-lasting durability. The grille, a key component affecting the mic's tonal character, is made of iron. The travel case has also been improved in the MKII version.
Low-Noise Tube
The GA-47 MKII Extended uses an NOS Telefunken 800 Series, low-noise pentode tube connected in triode mode in order to decrease distortion and noise. This tube is a modern glass derivative of the VF14M used in the vintage U47.
Vintage-Style Transformer
The GA-47 MKII transformer is especially designed with a 6.5:1 dual-bobbin transformer by a reputed transformer factory. Made of high-quality core material, it is a replica of the BV8 transformer used in the vintage U47.
Capacitors and Resistors
The coupling capacitor is a SOLEN one, made in France. It's an axial capacitor made from MKP material with copper pins, and it helps yield a warm yet delicate sound with a wide frequency response. SIEMENS low-loss polystyrene film capacitors are also used. ALLEN BRADLEY carbon film resistors are employed, which are made in the USA, and also contribute to the vintage, warm sound.
Mic Interior and Cabling
The electronic circuit is built mainly with point-to-point wiring and the ground connections are tied together using an insulated soldering. Teflon-insulated, silver-plated copper wire is used for the internal connections. All solder points are made with Mudorf Msolder Supreme SilverGold solder.
PSU Transformer and Electrolytic Capacitors
The vintage-style power supply uses a high-power, R-style transformer with a low noise level and a minimal stray field. The electrolytic capacitors are high-quality, audio-style units. A simple and effective circuit uses dual-stage filtering for the filament voltage. The high voltage is precisely filtered and stabilized using an ON Semiconductor zener diode.
Proprietary Microphone Cable
The XLR 7-pin cable is produced using 99.99% pure oxygen-free copper, teflon insulation, tinfoil, and 98% knitmesh with a high braid density. The connectors are gold-plated for enhanced conductivity.
