MXL Revelation II Overview

The MXL REVELATION II is a condenser microphone for studio applications, one that runs off of an EF86 pentode tube. It is designed to give you the warmth and intimacy that a classic tube microphone affords as well as a continuously variable polar pattern accessible from the accompanying power supply. Whether you need cardioid to close-mic a vocal, omnidirectional to capture the sound of the room, or anything in between, this mic can deliver the pattern.

The mic itself gives you a 20 Hz to 20 kHz frequency response from its dual, gold-sputtered, 6-micron diaphragm. The mic also offers a -10 dB pad and a selectable high-pass filter at 125 Hz, 12 dB/octave, for eliminating rumble. The power supply lets you flip the polarity should you need to do so.

The mic terminates in a 7-pin connector, so good thing it ships with a 15' 7-pin cable that plugs into the power supply. Also included is a conventional, 15' XLR cable to output the mic into your preamp as well as a shockmount, an aluminum flight case, a cleaning cloth, and the power supply itself.

MXL Revelation II Reviews

Outstanding Tube mic

I purchased the original MXL Revelation Mic for about $1200 when they first came out and still think it was worth every penny. I now own two of these mics. It is my all time favorite mic. The Revelation ll is the the exact same mic (spec) with a few minor cosmetic changes and a better price. Please read the Sound on Sound magazine reviews of both versions of this mic. I also use the Shure SM7B. The 7B can best be optimized with a high gain (70-80dB), selectable low impedance (300-600 ohms) preamp. Additionally I use the AKG 414 MKll. A stellar condenser mic. Like I said the MXL Revelation is my all time favorite.

GREAT VALUE FOR THE PRICE!

I was going to buy this mic from B&H and I was lucky enough to win one at A raffle at NAMM! I{ve been a U-47 guy since my days as an intern at King Records in Cincinnati, and this mic is dead on those vintage U-47's I used to work with at 1/20th the price! I will be purchasing another one from B&H.
