Available for download, the Overloud Choptones Carved Vai Rig Library is a selection of guitar amp and cabinet emulations for use with the Overloud TH-U platform. The amplifier, cabinets, stompboxes, and microphones were emulated by Choptones, a company known for its emulations ported to multiple platforms.
This particular expansion library recreates the sound of a Steve Vai Signature Series Carvin VL100 amplifier head, one voiced with 6L6 tubes. This amp was first debuted in 1999, delivered 100W of power in a dual-channel configuration, with volume, bass, midrange, treble, and presence controls for each channel. Pristine clean tones and high-gain soloing timbres can both be achieved with this emulation, which is quite suitable for hard rock and metal material.
The engineers modeled this amplifier in multiple configurations, with a wide array of cabinets, microphones, and stompboxes. There are 46 rigs offered in total, captured with Neumann, Sennheiser, Beyerdynamic, and Shure microphones. Cabinets from Marshall to Mesa Boogie to Engi have been utilized, and all manner of distortion pedals have also been modeled.
This expansion library requires either a full installation of Overloud TH-U or one of its editions to operate.
