Cavision Matte Box Donut Lens Adapter Ring (85mm)

The Cavision Matte Box Donut Adapter Ring has on outer diameter of 85 mm and is designed to work with select Cavision matte boxes. The donut adapter prevents light from leaking around the lens and reflecting off filters in the matte box. The cloth features an adjustable sizing cord that allows you to fit lenses with an outer diameter of approximately 50 to 85 mm without having to swap out donuts.

The aluminum ring of the donut adapter fits into the back of the matte box, and the cloth fits around the lens. The adjustable sizing cord allows you to snug the cloth around the lens. The cloth also extends up to 45 mm away from the matte box, which makes this donut usable with lenses that have a front that moves forward and back.

Cavision MB3485S Reviews

Great for it's price

I recently bot this a couple of weeks ago. I used it on a shoot and it worked amazingly. For its price, it really helped with getting out shadows and getting rid of any unwanted light just like any other Matte box but simply for cheaper. Whilst it functions extremely well, something that is annoying about is that I had to buy a step up ring so that it could fit onto my camera which cost another $15 but it was completely worth it. I would recommend it to anyone who is currently in the first stages of learning how to rig out cameras as it really helps people learn about the usefulness of Matte Boxes

Gonna give it time, but...

Read a few of the reviews on this Matte box, and was hesitant to purchase based on the reviews. Since the price wasn’t a budget buster, I went for it. I’ll start with the Pros: looks great on my new SLR Magic Micro primes. The clamp on Style Matte box in theory eases the time for lense changes and camera set up. The slide in 3x3 filter holders are pretty solid and easy to set up as well. The rotating filter holder is great for a pola. The flags are nice and big and easily adjustable. The abs plastic has a classic wrinkle finish that looks professional and feels good to the touch. This finishes the business end of my A7 rig off nicely. Cons: the clamping thumb screw is ultra small and feels like it could strip threads with one too many turns. It does not have a very positive grip on the end of the lens.. since this is the only stock attachment point with this set up it’s really only good for very light studio use. That being said Cavision offers a clamp for 15mm rods as an additional item that can be purchased separately. In my opinion, some further R&D needs to be done to make the clamp stronger and the attachment more positive.

question

May I use this matte box with the Zunow WCX-80 wide angle lens on a Sony FDR AX-100 camera with no vignetting? Thanks
Asked by: David
This combination is unknown and the answer would only come from testing the components together. Having said that, we feel that the camera with its lens at the widest mm setting plus wearing the Zunow most likely will cause vignetting with the matte box. The vignetting should go away if you zoom in slightly.

question

Can this matte box be clamped to a lens that has an 82mm attachment thread? Or do I need a step-up ring in order for the clamp to be secure? I have a zoom lens (24-70mm) that I'm looking to clamp to a DLSR. Would ideally like to avoid using a rail system.
Asked by: Samuel
Unfortunately, there is no Cavision 82mm to 85mm diameter available. And unless the lens's outer diameter is exactly 85mm, we are not able to make a recommendation. Cavision requests that you contact them directly. Cavision Tel: 604-298-9053 Website http://www.cavision.com/ Email [email protected].

Can fit Cokin P Series filters (86mm)?

Can fit Cokin P Series filters (86mm)?
Asked by: Nicolás
Is Cokin P filter 84mm in width instead of 86mm? cokin "P" filters fit loosely in filter stage slots only without using a filter tray. You can use filter tray locks on the side of the matte box to hold it in place.

question

I have a bmpcc and Veydra lenses. They are 77mm. Will this matte box work with those?
Asked by: Matt P.
The Veydra has a 77mm lens diameter or a 80mm diameter with the hood. Since the Cavision matte box can accommodate 50mm-80mm diameters with the inculded flexibel Donut Ring, you are good to go.

question

I'd like to use this hood on a wide angle converter lens (16x9 Inc. 169-HDWC8X-72 EXII 0.8x Wide Angle Converter) with the Sony FDR AX-100 camera. The hood web site says it can work with a bit wider lenses. The outside diameter of the converter lens is 98mm (with a filter size of 105mm - I don't understand but those are the numbers I keep getting?). I prefer to not use rails for this small camera. Thanks
Asked by: David
The rear clamp for this matte box is 85mm and cannot accommodate 105mm or 98mm. As far as not using rails, such a small camera cannot accommodate such large conversion lenses and matte boxes without them.

The Cavision 3x3" Matte Box is a clamp on matte box, which clamps onto your lens directly, with or without a rig.

question

The 85mm lens opening sounds non-standard. If the cinema lenses I'm considering have an 80mm opening, is it safe to expect this matte box to be able to clamp down from 85mm to 80mm in order to grip the cinema lens properly?
Asked by: Anonymous
This matte box is designed to be used with 15mm support rods. It will not clamp on a 80mm lens barrel.
