Cartoni Focus 10 Tripod System Reviews

Broke after two years of use

We love these sticks. The weak point is the quick release that is made of a resin like material and broke under normal use.

A long time Sachtler user, I typically was using a pod belonging to someone else, or a rented unit, so price considerations were not a primary concern, coupled with performance. Now that I have my own company price/performance is my major consideration. Having demo'd the new Sachtler FSB 6 Mk II Sideload for $2,270, which supports cameras systems up to 17.6 pounds, is a 75mm bowl and has only 3-click stops for both pan and tilt drag, it was a concern. Meaning these are preset drag settings unlike the Cartoni which has a much wide range without using preset numbering - you dial into more or less drag over a wider range. Yes, you get carbon fiber legs with the Sachtler at that price point, but you have their old decades leg releases which are not as fast as the Red Lock system, and more likely to get a finger pinched when trying to move quickly on a shoot. Forget the Sachtler's ACE heads - under-impressed with a lot of plastic and mediocre drag performance across the range. With the current discount on the Cartoni, it was certainly worth purchasing as they also did not have on the floor. I had it shipped and right away was impressed with the head, it wider drag settings, as well as the Red Lock quick release on the legs. Yes, it is aluminum and yes, it is heavier than carbon fiber, but it is also 1k less with more features against its competitors. 1. There is an O-ring which attaches to the top of the sticks - it allows you to pull up the spreader and pull in the legs all in one motion, nice. 2. The release buttons for the spreader also reveal a ratchet spreader bar for more precise length adjustment 3. I like that the pan/tilt lock/release knobs are adjacent to each other and make quick work of securing your head when you need to walk away. 4. The quick-release side mounting plate is quick, and secure One thing I'd like to see is for Cartoni to put up a video, or have better documentation on how best to tweak, or think about using their drag system for different camera loads considering there are no markings - seems that as this is a strong point from a sales and marketing perspective they would want to provide as much detailed information as possible, this is a miss!, though I will figure it out over time. All in all out of the box and with some limited use I feel this system will hold up in the field, is smooth where it counts and I can use the savings for something else - well worth considering!

The Cartoni Focus 10 would only work with Cartoni Plates. However, You could add this Quick Release adapter to work with Manfrotto plate styles. https://bhpho.to/3DLCo9e

Hi - I would like to know if it is possible to adapt the fluid head on this tripod for use on a slider? Thanks
Asked by: Marcus
Yes, it is possible to adapt the Cartoni Focus 10 Red Lock System (100mm Ball) for use with a slider. Either one can mount the slider above the tripod head's camera screw, or use a 100mm half ball adapter such as the Manfrotto 500BALL 100mm Half Ball Leveler w/3/8" Screw for 100mm Bowl Tripods seen here, https://bhpho.to/3IPq4HR
