Designed as a more advanced starter scope, the Carson Optical RedPlanet 90mm f/11 EQ Refractor Telescope is a complete observational platform for making detailed observations of the moon, viewing planets, or comet hunting. Its manual equatorial mount, when properly polar aligned, can easily track objects using the slow-motion cables with reduced vibrations, and easy-to-read setting circles aid in speeding up celestial navigation to known coordinates. The entire rig assembles and breaks down without the need for tools, so users can set up fast and get observing sooner.
This version of the RedPlanet comes with two eyepieces that yield high and low magnifications and a 90° diagonal that sports an integrated erecting prism to correct images and allow the scope to be used as a conventional spotting scope for terrestrial use. The diagonal also places the user's head in a more comfortable position, especially when the optical tube assembly (OTA) is pointed high overhead. An adjustable-height aluminum tripod supports the mount and optical tube and comes with a center tray that conveniently holds accessories while improving stability and reducing vibrations.
- 90mm f/11 aperture is ideal for viewing all moon phases, planets, constellations, and bright deep-sky objects like binary stars and clusters
- Long 1000mm focal length produces a high magnification potential
- Refractor-style optical path is highly reliable without the need for constant maintenance or calibration
- Fully multi-coated optics improve light transmission, color rendition, and contrast
- Simple single-speed 1.25" rack-and-pinion focuser is strong and sturdy
- Dovetail mounting plate
- Manual equatorial
- Locking altitude adjustment screw
- Etched declination dial
- Dual-axis slow-motion cables enable precise adjustments with reduced vibrations
- Counterweight and counterweight bar allow proper balancing of the OTA, especially if additional accessories are added
- Dovetail saddle accepts the optical tube mounting plate and allows for precise balancing
- Lightweight and durable aluminum makes it highly portable and easy to set up and break down
- Adjustable height to accommodate a variety of users and observing positions
- Spiked feet to provide stability in rough or soft terrain
- Center tray holds eyepieces and other accessories while adding stability and vibration reduction
- 1.25" diameter barrel
- Accepts most astronomical eyepiece filters
- 9mm focal length produces 111x magnification
- 20mm focal length yields 50x power
- 90° angle places head in comfortable viewing position, especially when aimed directly overhead
- Integrated erecting prism corrects image for terrestrial viewing as a conventional spotting scope
- 1.25" snout and eyepiece holder fits and accepts the most common size focusers and accessories
- Permanently mounted in place
- Low 6x power makes alignment and star hopping navigation faster
