It is suitable for use with black and white papers, for use directly, after partial bleaching, or in combination with other toners, and its effects vary based on paper type, tone, surface texture, and toner dilution. Selenium toners also help to extend the apparent Dmax of prints, with the ability to produce a richer range of tones in the shadow areas.
