Mevo Start Live Streaming Camera
Key Features
  • Stream and/or Record up to 1080p30
  • Three-Mic Array + External Audio Support
  • Controlled via Live Production Mevo App
  • 6-Hour Battery; NDI-Enabled Video Output
The Mevo Start is an all-in-one camera designed to provide a very easy workflow for live streaming to popular RTMP platforms, including YouTube Live and Facebook Live. It streams up to 1080p30 resolution video and also allows you to simultaneously record what you're streaming to a microSD card, so you'll have a copy of your live stream. The camera is controlled via a companion iOS/Android Mevo app, which offers intuitive, simple-to-use tools for live production. For example, by panning and zooming through the shot that you're capturing during a live stream, the app can create nine different angles of that shot and present them to you in a grid layout. Then you can simply tap the grid square that you want to stream. While the app is capable of creating the different angles automatically, you can also choose to do so manually. Other functions of the app include Autopilot mode, which uses face detection and scene analysis to choose interesting shots and edit the stream for you.

Other functions of the app include Autopilot mode, which uses face detection and scene analysis to choose interesting shots and edit the stream for you.

The Mevo Start is highly compact and portable, and it runs on a built-in battery for up to six hours, allowing you to stream extended sessions. Or, an optional dedicated Mevo Start Ethernet Adapter can be incorporated for continuous power. The camera has a native 5/8"-27 mic stand thread with a reducer bushing in it. The bushing, which can be removed with a coin or screwdriver, provides a 1/4"-20 thread on one side and 3/8"-16 thread on the other. Between these three mount types, you'll be able to attach the camera to desktop and standard tripods, light stands, and mic stands. A dedicated Mevo Stand is also available sold separately that's slim and easy to set up.

For audio capture, the Mevo Start has three built-in digital MEMS mics with Fraunhofer upHear Spatial Microphone Processing that automatically optimizes and syncs sounds for better audio. Additionally, the camera offers a 3.5mm audio jack on the rear for connecting external microphones for more professional audio. The audio port works with line level and mic level audio inputs. Alternatively, an optional USB audio interface can be connected to the USB Type-C charging port of the camera for external audio capture. Also, whether internal or external, your captured audio can be mixed in the Mevo app. The app lets you control gain, choose between stereo or mono, and more.

The Mevo Start also features NDI HX support so it can be integrated into a more professional live production workflow. Via Wi-Fi or over an optional Ethernet adapter, it can be connected to an NDI network to work with popular mixers including OBS, NewTek TriCaster, Wirecast, vMix, and many others. Mevo Start also supports direct connection to Livestream Studio.

Mevo Start Reviews

Very portable and functional camera

I bought this camera so that I would have a portable option to augment the fixed cameras in our house of worship. Having the Ethernet adapter allowed me to use PoE to power it and send the signal, but it's also nice to be able to use it wirelessly. I'm using it with OBS as an NDI-HX input. The only drawback to this camera (and any fixed camera) is that you can't zoom in optically. You can do a digital zoom but you lose picture quality. It's not a problem if your subject matter is close though. It was great getting the whole kit with everything I needed to set up, use, and store the camera. It's nice to have the flexibility of moving the camera where it's needed.

Great addition to our livestream setup

Our church was looking for a camera that we could move, use outside of our sanctuary and be easy to use. This fit that need and more. Being wireless and battery powered has allowed us to place this camera in places for a closer view, like our children's program. If you are looking for a quick set up, or ease of use this camera works. The image has been great and when paired with our NDI setup, we are able to seamlessly add this to our livestream.

Really frustrated user

This is the first time I've bought anything from BHP that I've considered returning. It was highly recommended by a friend for live streaming church services and events. I haven't been able to make it work yet. Turning it on is even a challenge, as it keeps turning off after a few seconds, and takes multiple attempts to get it to stay on. First, the site directed me to the wrong IOS app, which was a different Mevo app. I finally found the right one and after several attempts to log onto my network and get connected via Bluetooth, it told me I needed a firmware update. But the firmware update keeps failing because of an unsupported URL, whatever that means. I can't even start using the camera until I update the firmware, and I can't update the firmware, so Catch-22.

Great Camera for all needs !!!

The MEVO Camera is great for all types of video. It's small compact body is perfect for small tripod configurations. The app feature for your phone/tablet is super convenient to do editing on the spot. The live stream feature is perfect for 1, 2, or the 3 camera configuration setup.

Thank you.

Not good for professional videographers the videos quality when you zoom in is totally terrible

Simple, but lousy quality

The streaming setup I got this for was going to stream a speaker at about 30-40 feet away from the camera. At this distance the Mevo picked up most of the room, which was unacceptable here. The FoV is far too large, and with no good way to zoom in, the Mevo just wasn't an option. This camera was a disappointment. Without using the digital zoom the video is just acceptable. Add any zoom and it becomes unacceptable, in my opinion. That means that the fancy auto-tracking, etc, make the image look horrible. The dynamic range also seems poor compared to other cameras. I wouldn't recommend these unless you have to have a relatively simple UI that anyone could figure out, or plan on using multiple cameras with no zoom. Even then I'd hesitate to recommend these. To replace the Mevo, I got a ~$100 camera from a notable online market and added a ~$60 C-mount lens, piped the thing into OBS Studio, and got much better video quality than the Mevo, for less money, and have more capabilities than the Mevo app gave me.

Owned Roland and two Atems While Atem is still great your still dragging monitor , cables or wireless transmitters than a bunch of adapters and hdmi wires and hard connecting to your lap top and of course you need wifi or some alternative. Mevo tiny good camera battery that last like 6 hours , they are wirless and couple taps you add them and manager all the switching from your cell phone or tablet. On my team I have 3 and co worker 3 so we split duty or share and then have 6 all the tech headaches gone and can focus on doing stuff cool. It sets up in instant no manual and tech support awesone

Non-powered mono microphones, such as the Movo Photo PM20-S Dual Lavalier (SKU: MOPM20S) and the Shure MOTIV MVL (SKU: SHMVLA) are recommended by Mevo to work with their cameras. https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1500920-REG/movo_photo_pm20_s_executive_lavalier_clip_on_interview.html https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1251144-REG/shure_mvl_a_mvl_omnidirectional_condenser_lavalier.html
