Field Optics Research FPH-ULP Reviews

Better available for less

I bought this because I wanted a small light weight head and I wanted to buy American made. The build is OK, it's the design which is very poor. As stated in another review the twin tighteners for tilt is needless pain. The control arm is on the left and can not be moved to the right side. I have three other heads in use with the arm mounted on the right side, which for me made using it awkward. It has a quick release for the mounting plate, but no way to lock that in place. Using it for a lightweight spotting scope while birding I could risk it catching on something and dropping an expensive scope. I tied a small line on it which secured the release from accidentally opening. I replaced it with a Ulanzi U210, which for my use is a much better head and only cost $40. No- it isn't American made.

much better control

Using with my new Celestron C5. Once I figured how to adjust and level out scope this pan head has good control for the price.

Can this head be fitted with a 3/8 screw?

The Base Mount is 3/8"-16. The Camera Mounting Screw is 1/4"-20. If wishing to mount a camera with a 3/8"-16 connection. One option is a 3/8"-16 to 1/4"-20 Reducer Bushing like the one linked here. https://bhpho.to/3qNW8US. The other option is to get an Arca type plate with this size screw, like the Sirui TY-70A Quick Release Plate linked here. https://bhpho.to/3hjEwNG
