Metabones MBSPNFG-NZ-BM1 Overview

This Speed Booster Ultra 0.71x Adapter from Metabones allows a Nikon F-mount lens to be mounted onto a Nikon Z-mount camera. The adapter helps maximize the apparent angle of view of the lens while providing a 1-stop increase for the camera over the lens's aperture range.

The adapter is constructed from aluminum alloy for durability while minimizing weight. The mounting rings are made with brass to further prevent wear and tear. Inside the adapter are five lens elements in four groups. For improved prevention of internal ghosting and reflections, the lens elements are constructed from high-index tantalum-based glass. A detachable tripod foot offers 1/4"-20 threads and an Arca-type dovetail.

The adapter does not support electronic communication between a lens and camera. An aperture dial is built in for aperture control of Nikon G-type lenses, which do not have an aperture ring. Nikon AI or many post-Nikon AI lenses can have their aperture settings widened or narrowed using their built-in aperture control rings if preferred.

Key Features
  • Attach Nikon F-mount lenses to Nikon Z-mount cameras, such as the Nikon Z50
  • Compatible with NIKKOR G and F lenses (including non-AI and AI lens mounts)
  • Clickless aperture ring covers an 8-stop range marking, clearly indicating the actual number of stops
  • 5-element/4-group optical design incorporating ultra-high index tantalum-based optical glass
  • Increases maximum aperture by 1 stop
  • Increases MTF
  • Makes lens 0.71x wider
  • Aluminum alloy and brass construction with chromium plating
  • Rubber gasket protects the Z-mount connection from dust and moisture
  • Satin surface finish
  • Detachable Arca-type tripod foot with a 1/4"-20 thread

The Metabones Speed Booster Ultra 0.71x Adapter for Nikon G Lens to Nikon Z-Mount Camera does not offer electronic contacts to allow for autofocus on Nikon Z mount cameras. Only manual focus and aperture control on the lens adapter will be available.

It appears this adapter will not work with E-type lenses such as the 70-300 AF-P FX?
Asked by: William
The Nikon G Speed Boosters are fully manual mechanism adapters. You would need to adjust the aperture of lenses used on the adapter through the physical aperture ring on the adapter/lens. According to Metabones, the new Nikkor E series lenses (such as the full-frame FX Nikon AF-P NIKKOR 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6E ED VR Lens) are are different from the conventional D/G type lenses as the diaphragm blades are NOT operated by mechanical linkage levers (instead, they are controlled electronically by the camera), and the Nikon AF-P NIKKOR 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6E ED VR Lens does not have a physical aperture ring. That means the existing Metabones Nikon G adaptors are not able to adjust the aperture of these type of lenses.

Is this adapter compatible with the ZEISS Milvus 50mm f/1.4 ZF.2 lens?
Asked by: Joshua
Yes, the ZEISS Milvus 50mm f/1.4 ZF.2 Lens for Nikon F would be compatible for use with the Metabones Speed Booster Ultra 0.71x Adapter for Nikon G Lens to Nikon Z-Mount Camera to connect the lens to a Nikon Mirrorless Camera that uses the Nikon Z-mount lens mount. Do note that this lens adapter does not support electronic communication between an attached camera and lens. As such, you will have to focus the lens manually and set your exposure manually. You may either use the aperture ring built onto the lens or built onto the lens mount adapter to control the amount of light entering the camera.
