  • 5/8" Stud, 1 x Stand Steel Riser
The 64", chrome/black-finished stainless steel C-Stand with Turtle Base Kit from Savage presents a new twist on an age-old design for a support that's an industry standard. The stand's stainless steel double risers have a 5/8" top stud for lights with a matching receiver. The removable turtle-type base allows you to replace the double riser with the included Junior to Baby adapter for low-angle shooting or with the kit's included 20" riser. It will support 25 lb and rises to a height of 64". Alternatively, you could mount two lights using both risers. Another benefit is the "lazy" or "Rocky Mountain" leg that can be elevated for balance on uneven surfaces. A hanging hook is included for additional mounting options.

Savage CB-600-20 Reviews

It works as expected

I occasionally have to set up on uneven terrain (or want to use a staircase), so having that adjustable foot is useful. Sadly, sometimes I'd prefer to put just one foot on a staircase going up, but doing so would be a mechanical challenge. :)

Nice stand, Poor measurements

There's plenty to like about this stand. The center post is heavy-duty and spring loaded (so you don't destroy your fingers if it slips). The grip is nice, and the included cable bracket works for hanging either cords or power supply boxes... 120d and 300d owners will appreciate this. What's frustrating are the dimension choices that Savage made. The receiver leg is REMARKABLY shorter than the other two, necessitated so that they will collapse properly. This means that using it for a light/bounce setup as I hoped just doesn't work well, as the light is forced too close to the center column to be effective. To get it in the correct position, I had to add an extra boom arm and grip head. This threw the center of gravity off-balance and leads to my second gripe: The legs sit too close to the ground to properly fit sand bags. Even hanging over the tallest of the two standard legs, the sandbags hung all the way onto the floor, negating their effectiveness. All of my Avenger and Impact stands sit high enough to keep the sandbags up off the floor (meaning their full weight hangs on the stand), but the Savage seems to sit about 2 lower. These setup issues are enough that I might be sending this back. I love the design concept, but the execution just falls short. Especially considering the price, I expected better engineering.
