RODE Wireless GO Overview

Bundled together by B&H for your convenience, this white Rode Wireless GO Kit lets you pair your Wireless GO system with TRRS-enabled mobile devices, such as certain iPhones or iPads, so that you can capture high-quality audio while recording video. As such, it's useful for run-and-gun styles of filmaking and news gathering—styles that increasingly rely on mobile devices.

Use the Wireless GO system to transmit/receive crystal-clear audio over distances of up to 230'. Styled in white, the Wireless GO makes use of secure, Series III 2.4 GHz with 128-bit encryption, ensuring a reliable transmission every time. Use an external microphone with the transmitter, or use the transmitter itself as a microphone—one is built right into the unit.

You'll note the Wireless GO's receiver gives you a TRS output, making it compatible with many recording systems. However, smart devices such as iPhones and iPads sport TRRS connections.

It's only an extra "R", but inside this redundant letter resides a potential headache of connectivity issues. Luckily this kit solves these issues by providing you with a Rode SC7 3.5mm TRS to TRRS Adapter, thereby obviating any problems.

RODE Wireless GO Reviews

Very easy to use

I love these. They are pair out of the box. Super easy to use. I pair them with a headset to help with background noise. And since the environment I film in is on the noisy side, I cannot comment on the overall professional voice clarity. I also have not tried them long range so I also cannot comment on that - I am usually only a few feet from the subject speaking. But in my experience it never 'broke up' connection. If you are looking for an easy wireless system - this is it.

I love the Rode Wireless GO. It's easy to set up and works well with my phone. I'm using ProCamera app and it pairs instantly.

This is a handy, quality wireless mic setup for the price. I use it for live streaming my fitness classes, and I've been impressed so far. My only complaint is that the battery life is on the shorter side.

Limit your expectations

I was so excited to get this system and had good luck until I ran two mics at once. They kept randomly dropping out even while maintaining a distance of about 12 feet. I saw a scathing video review online and discovered the line of sight shouldn't be broken to ensure the audio stays connected. This isn't entirely true because with a single mic I've had subjects turn their backs on me at greater distances without an issue. I wonder if running two at once can cause excessive interference. When it works, the portability and quick setup are fantastic and noninvasive for on-camera subjects. If you can monitor the sound, it's a good idea to be certain all is working properly.

I do wish they had internal recording like the GO II's but paired with the white Rode lav mic they give me a solid quality recording of the bride recorded by my Zoom H6 via a 1/8" to 1/4" adapter on the receiver

The Rode Wireless GO Microphone system is extremely versatile and ready to use straight out of the packaging. This wireless mic system is ideal if you have experienced trouble with wired lavalier mics in the past, giving you a great alternative without sacrificing audio quality. The rode wireless GO mic has a transmitter, which has a built-in microphone that sends a signal to the receiver. Comes with windshield for extra protection of the internal mic for when capturing audio outside. Note, if using smart phones to capture content the 3.5mm TRS wire that is included cannot connect to the smart phone. The 3.5 mm SC7 adapter with the TRRS coil is needed to connect to smart phones. Overall, great product!

How I can monitor the audio? Have an adapter for headphones?
Asked by: Maria
The device the receiver is connected to would have to have a headphone output in order to monitor the audio. For instance, if plugging into a camera directly, then the camera must have a headphone output. If plugging into an audio recorder, then you would plug into the headphone out of that device.

Can I use the mic and have it go through my iPad if I'm 15 feet away?
Asked by: Garrett
If you have a proper app that supports the Rode, it should. With my experience, having the transmitter and receiver in line of sight with each other gives the best results. I have mine about 40-50 feet from each other and it worked great. Hope this helps :)

Can it function as a stand alone capture device?
Asked by: Cristian
Hello Cristian, if by standalone capture, you mean that it records on the Wireless Go, the answer is no. This is a standard wireless receiver and transmitter meant to plug into an external recording device.
