Blackmagic Design ATEM Mini Pro HDMI Live Stream Switcher
Key Features
  • 4-Channel Live Stream HDMI Switcher
  • Control up to Four BMPCC 6K/4K Cameras
  • Live Tally, Stream and Record Status
  • Record Button, Channel Preview Multiview
Similar to its predecessor, the ATEM Mini, the ATEM Mini Pro from Blackmagic Design is a four-input, live production switcher with an integrated control panel designed for multi-camera live streaming up to HD video to the internet or broadcast applications from gaming consoles, corporate computer streams, or HD cameras. Along with the software control update, the Mini Pro builds on the Mini with features such as live stream data rate and status information, a built-in hardware encoder, simultaneous recording to USB drives, drive hot swapping with the Blackmagic MultiDock, added record and stream buttons, stream caching, a timecode generator, program preview multiview, tally support, and support for Blackmagic Design Pocket Cinema Camera 6K and 4K to utilize as your broadcast sources.

The ATEM Mini Pro retains the same rear-panel setup on which four HDMI inputs are available on the rear of the chassis and they input up to 1080p HD video. There is also an HDMI output for a projector or multiview monitoring, a USB Type-C output as for recording HD video to a computer, and an RJ45 10/100/1000 Ethernet port for direct live streaming as well as system management, remote control, and upgrades. You can adjust frame rate depending on the quality of your stream, and there is no need for additional streaming software because the Pro includes a built-in hardware encoder.

Is it true that a USB 3.1 Type-C Male cable must be used with the USB Out on the ATEM Mini Pro?
Asked by: Bob
The USB jack on the back of the ATEM Mini Pro is a Type-C. I've used cables with Type-C and cables with Type-A connectors on the *other* end, without issues.

We are setting up a small studio to broadcast ...

We are setting up a small studio to broadcast GoToMeeting Webinar’s and want to use up to four DSLR cameras / Sony production video camera. It looks like the ATEM Mini would work for our very small requirement. Do you have any white papers on configuring a small studio as well as a recommendation on the use of the ATEM Mini / Mini Pro for passing live video directly into the GoToMeeting /GoToWebinar products? We already are using OSB with a CAM Link, but need to have multiple cameras and plan to use a green screen for overlay of the live image on backdrops and videos. We do need to go from the cameras into a standard USB 3.0 port as our computers do not have Thunderbolt.
Asked by: John
There is no white paper for this configuration but the ATEM Mini Workflow page on the Blackmagic Design website has some workflow examples (https://www.blackmagicdesign.com/products/atemmini/workflow). The ATEM Mini Pro will allow you to cut between cameras, key a green screen, and overlay images while sending your live program feed into the computer over a standard USB connection. Most streaming, conferencing, and video chat applications support the USB webcam protocol that the ATEM Mini Pro uses, so it should work with most applications like GoToMeeting/GoToWebinar.

Does this require a capture card device?

Does this require a capture card device?
Asked by: Rodney
No, the Black Magic Atem Mini Pro could be considered a capture card on it's own. The four HDMI inputs can be Live streamed from the USB-C output like a webcam when connected to a computer. Or you can connect an SSD USB-C drive to the Atem Mini Pro to record the Program output to high quality MP4 files to use for editing in Post.

With the ATEM Mini Pro, what is required to playback a pre-recorded video? Can it be played back from the computer that is being used for the software part of the switcher?
Asked by: Charles
That is possible with careful consideration of how the ATEM is controlled. A second desktop screen could be used to feed one of the Mini inputs for this. A better solution might be using the Hyperdeck Mini for playback.
