ASUS Crosshair VIII Impact Overview

Bring big potential to your next small-form-factor build with the ROG Crosshair VIII Impact AM4 Mini-DTX Motherboard from ASUS. Designed to provide ATX-sized performance and connectivity in a mini-DTX package, this motherboard features the AMD AM4 socket and X570 chipset. Install memory in two dual-channel RAM slots supporting up a total capacity of 64GB and speeds up to 4800 MHz when overclocking. Storage drives can be connected using two M.2 slots via an included SO-DIMM.2 adapter card, while four SATA III slots are also present. Install a graphics card using the PCIe 4.0 x16 slot.

In addition to Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth support, this motherboard also features five USB 3.2 Gen 2 and two USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A ports on the rear I/O panel. A USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C port is also present, along with a Gigabit Ethernet port, S/PDIF port, and three 3.5mm analog audio outputs. Two connectors can be used with the included Wi-Fi antenna, while BIOS flashback and Clear CMOS buttons allow for easy firmware access, updates, and debugging. A range of internal headers are also incorporated into this board, including liquid-cooling headers, an addressable RGB header, and more. The ASUS ROG Crosshair VIII Impact features the SupremeFX S1220 audio codec and 8-channel support, as well as a Sabre ES9023P DAC. This motherboard is compatible with Windows 10 64-bit operating systems.

AMD X570 Chipset
This motherboard utilizes the AMD X570 Chipset and AM4 socket. It is compatible with 2nd and 3rd Gen Ryzen processors, and 1st and 2nd Gen Ryzen processors with Radeon Vega Graphics.
USB 3.2 Gen 2
Doubling the speed of its predecessor, USB 3.2 Gen 2 features a maximum throughput of 10 Gb/s when used with compatible devices and is synonymous with USB 3.1 Gen 2.
Compact Design
Impact's unusual Mini-DTX form factor is a deliberate choice. Many Mini-ITX cases ship with enough space for a dual-slot graphics card, meaning there's typically unused space below the bottom PCIe slot, space that could be utilized to mount more components or enable additional features. Being marginally taller than mini-ITX allows Impact to exploit this unused space, allowing ROG engineers to squeeze in features while still fitting a large proportion of mini-ITX PC cases.
Small Form Factor
Despite its small build, the ROG Crosshair VIII Impact is designed to deliver an ATX-like experience by stacking up storage, audio, and control features onto vertical daughter boards.
DIY Friendly
A pre-mounted I/O shield makes installation easy, while the onboard control card allows for easy firmware access, updates, and debugging. Furthermore, a FlexKey functions as a system reset button by default, but it can also be set to provide quick access to features such as activating Safe Boot or turning Aura lighting on or off. Addressable RGB headers provide support for a range of lighting components while water flow and in-and-out headers accommodate liquid-cooling components. Furthermore, connectors use a 90° design for easy cable management.
Heatsinks
The low-noise Dual Custom Delta Superflo fans feature a high-durability bearing with a 60,000-hour L10 lifespan. A dual-intake fan bracket recesses the fan to enable reliable ventilation in tight spaces. Fin density is also optimized for max surface area while maintaining a low-resistance exhaust path.
10 Power Stages
Featuring an array of 10 strategically paired power stages, the Impact's VRM is geared for any workload and all operating conditions necessitated by multicore CPUs.
ProCool II Power Connectors
The latest ProCool II power connectors offer higher endurance and longer lifespan by lowering impedance to prevent hotspots and connector failure. Furthermore, these power connectors feature an upgraded design and solid pins for better dissipation.
Power Stage MOSFETs
The VRM is comprised of 8+2 TDA21472 power stages, each rated to handle 70A.
Alloy Chokes
Each power stage is accompanied by a high-permeability alloy-core choke rated to handle 45A.
Metallic Capacitors
Input and output filtering is provided by solid-polymer capacitors rated to last thousands of hours at high operating temperatures.
