StarTech SVID2USB232 Overview

Star-Tech's Composite & S-Video to USB 2.0 Video Capture Adapter Cable allows you to easily capture a signal from a composite or S-video source to your Windows-based computer.

Connect the cable to your computer's USB port and carry over up to 720 x 480 at 30 fps or 720 x 576 at 25 fps video along with 2-channel RCA audio. The cable features a USB 2.0 Type-A connector on one end and RCA composite, mini-DIN S-video, and two RCA audio connectors on the other.

Common applications include converting VHS home movies to digital format, recording from analog cameras or older gaming systems, and capturing from different analog devices for streaming. The content is captured in a digital MPEG format (MPEG-1, MPEG-2, or MPEG-4) for editing, viewing, and other applications. The cable also offers a snapshot function that lets you capture still images from analog video.

Included with the cable for setting up your capture and conversion workflow is a Movavi software on a CD for Windows 7-10 (a download link can alternatively be requested from Star-Tech). In addition, the cable features TWAIN-compatible drivers to ensure compatibility with a wide range of 3rd-party software.

Proc amp (Contrast) needs to be adjusted

I am very happy with the SVID2USB232 and had no issues capturing analog video. One word of advice for new users; the default Contrast in the Proc amp settings is set too high at 32 and should be lowered to around 20 or the video will look washed out. This observation is based on my personal test captures using the device and confirmed by two YouTube reviews. Typically a new user would not be aware or adjust the Proc amp default settings and may determine that the capture device is faulty due to the resulting video produced. To address this issue, Startech should consider issuing a firmware update to correct the default settings. Other than that, its a great product

Can I use this cable to connect my 8m video camera to my computer in order to convert film to digital?
Asked by: Kim
The StarTech Composite & S-Video to USB 2.0 capture device will work with any analog RCA or S-video signal. As long as your camera has an RCA or S-video output, this should work to convert its video to digital.

Yes, the StarTech Composite & S-Video to USB 2.0 Video Capture Adapter Cable could capture from the Composite output of the Canon XHA1 camera. The Startech Capture cable would connect to a Windows PC via USB-A. The XHA1 has a composite output. The composite adapter cable does come with the camera. If you lost the composite cable it is listed below. Canon STV-250N Stereo Video Cable BH #CASTV250N
