Samsung 870 QVO Internal SSD Reviews
Slow
The 8 TB version of these drives are pitifully slow. Like read speeds of 35 MB/s slow. Like that's slower than the 2.5, 5,400 rpm spinners they were supposed to replace. They are loaded in USB 3.2a enclosures and plugged into a Thunderbolt 4 hub, either my Mac's or my Thunderbolt dock. Other than for backup or archival drives, I'd steer clear of these. They're quiet, that's about the only good thing I can say about them.
DO NOT BUY
This drive worked great for about 2 months and then it wouldn't mount anymore. I reformatted it thinking it was a fluke. It was working again for a few months when I realized that the photos I was keeping on it were getting corrupted. Thankfully this was not the only copy of those photos. Shortly after I noticed the corruption, the drive would no longer mount. I tried multiple enclosures and it was dead. After a fiasco of getting through to the right department at Samsung, they did send me a replacement after about a month. I didn't even get to finish copying the photos onto the new drive and it errored out and would no longer mount. I asked Samsung to replace it with a different model and they would not. They also told me that the drive is supposed to be in a computer not an external enclosure. I couldn't be more angry. Almost $600 down the drain. They will be sending me another replacement, but how can I trust any of my data to it. I will never buy another Samsung SSD again.
