The VP64A from Shure is a high-output omnidirectional handheld dynamic microphone designed for professional audio and video production. It combines exceptional performance and comfortable feel with a handsome on-camera appearance.
The 7 7/8" VP64A is ideal for close-up use and can be used outside as well as indoors. The omnidirectional pickup pattern provides uniform pickup on or off axis, eliminating the need for critical microphone positioning. The VP64A mic also features a tailored frequency response with an upper midrange presence rise that adds crispness and clarity to speech. The cartridge utilizes a neodymium magnet for higher output and increased signal-to-noise ratio.
The cartridge is housed in a rubber isolation mount for ruggedness and to minimize handling noise. It is protected by a water-resistant mesh that enables the microphone to be used during the most challenging weather conditions. For added wind and "pop" protection, use the supplied windscreen.

Not the best sounding mic, but an economical solution for those occasional situations when somebody is holding a mic among a circle of people who are talking.

question
I need to adapt this to a 1/8 input on my camcorders. So do I need a female XLR to male 1/8 pin?
In order to connect this and similar mics to a camcorder we recommend using a standard XLR mic cable to run the length to your camera, such as the Kopul 300 series cable http://bhpho.to/1wN1pO2 You will then adapt the XLR to mini into your camcorder using a special adapter cable. The Kopul LMT100 is an 18 cable and designed specifically for this purpose. http://bhpho.to/1yMIinD

Can this mic work with the housing on a Canon ...
Can this mic work with the housing on a Canon XA11?
Yes, the handle on the Shure VP64A handheld microphone has a 19mm diameter which should fit into the microphone holder on the Canon XA11. If the mic holder is slightly larger than the mic's handle, you can use a rubber O-ring like the Sanken ROCS Rubber O-Rings for CS-1 (B&H # SAROCS) which come in a pack of 10 and will fill out the extra bit of space so the mic will fit securely. The VP64A.and Sanken CS-1 shotgun mic that the O-ring was designed for use with both have a 19mm diameter. As another option, you can try to make your own wedge using rubber bands, gaffer's tape or pieces of sponge to fill in the space and create a secure fit for the mic,

question
For a Canon 70d I know I need a xlr to 3.5mm cable so the mic connects to my camera, But I was wondering which cable would I need to do that? There's so many options. Which xlr to 3.5mm cable should I get from this site. Thanks
The recommended cable adapter for DSLR connection is the Kopul LMT-100. This is an 18 cable adapter. To run the length from the mic to adapter would require a standard XLR mic cable. Available in lengths from 1 to 100 feet.

question
I need an external mic for my Canon Vixia HF R52 camcorder. The Canon tech support person said the mic had to have its own power supply. But this Shure VP64-AL says it needs no battery or Phantom power (whatever that is). So will this mic work with my camcorder?
I actually am using both of those models together. I did have to get 2 adapters to make it work. XLR to 3.5 mm and an XLR Gender Changer. It works well.

Will this microphone work with a Canon Rebel eos ...
Will this microphone work with a Canon Rebel eos T7i, or would I need an adaptor?
You may purchase an XLR adapter such as the Marantz Professional PMD-602A 2-Channel DSLR Audio Interface, B&H # MAPMD602A, along with the Kopul CMX-RC30 Right-Angle Coiled Stereo Mini Cable (Black, 8 to 24"), B&H # KOCMXRC30B, or you may purchase an XLR to 1/8" (3.5mm) miniphone cable such as the Kopul XRSM 3-Pin XLR Female to 3.5mm RA Stereo Mini-Plug Cable (10'), B&H # KOXRSM10B, for your usage needs. The Kopul cable would be a simple cable and the more economical option, whereas the Marantz PMD-602A would allow you to use a standard XLR cable and allow you to control the level of the microphone, along with allowing you to use two (2) microphones simultaneously and monitor the audio using headphones.

question
Will this work with a Zoom H1 with a mini plug adapter? How is it powered?
This microphone has a dynamic element so it does not require a power source to operate, however you would need to ensure your adapter includes a low-to-high impedance-matching transformer. This will convert the mic's low impedance output to the high-impedance input required by the handheld recorder.
