Versalab PARALLEL overview

  • 1Description

Beautiful photography requires precision. Never again wonder if your enlarger or copy stand is aligned properly. Find out instantly and accurately. The Parallel Alignment Guide is a small, battery powered, very carefully aligned laser beam projector. Used with the supplied reflectors, it becomes a very clear and simple alignment indicating system. Accuracy of alignment is indicated by the position of the red reflected laser dot. If everything is parallel, the red dot is reflected back to the center of the taget. Misalignment becomes obvious if the dot is anywhere other than the center of the target. The progress of corrective adjustment is easily followed by watching the position of the dot as it moves in response to the changing alignment.

The Parallel is fast and easy. Set the Parallel on the easel and turn it on. Hold the reflector against the face of the lens (or remove lens and substitute the reflector for the negative in the negative carrier) and the alignment is instantly verified. No squinting. The Parallel itself does not need to be carefully aligned or installed. Simply place it close to the middle of the easel. Your hands are now free to work on the equipment. Comes ready to use with any enlarger up to 4x5". An inexpensive option is available for 8x10".

Versalab PARALLEL reviews

Parallel Alignment Gauge is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 8.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Do yourself a favor...Buy One! I wish I had seen the light earlier and bought one ofthese long before I did. It bothered me to spend the $$$for this piece of equipment but I finally gave in and gotone. The first time you use it can take a bit of timebecause you're first getting the negative stage aligned toeasel and then the lens stage following that. Depending onyour enlarger brand and model, this initial session can takeawhile as you figure out how the enlarger can be aligned inevery plane. Once done, though, it's a simple matter toverify alignment and tweak as needed. When I switched toAPO enlarging lenses that work their best at 1-2 stops downfrom wide open, it kind of forced me to deal with getting myalignment perfect because I didn't have depth of fieldhelping at 8 and 11 like before. My investment in highgrade glass spurred me to get one of these but I wish I hadhad one long before. Once you have one, you'll wonder howyou functioned without it! There are home-made methods thatwork quite well but the Versalab makes it so easy, you tendto check it quite often and stay on top your perfect alignment. Rated 5 out of 5 by from Helped me align a darkroom enlarger for mural wall-printing I bought the Parallel alignment gauge to align a Beseler 23XL enlarger for mural printing (4 feet wide photographs) projected to a board mounted on a wall. The tool helped me achieve perfect alignment - something I never even dreamed of prior to buying the laser alignment tool for wall murals. I am now able to take advantage of my lens' maximum sharpness and I'm seeing grain structure edge to edge over a 4 foot surface. Seems pricey, but it's money well spent if you do any large scale work and care to have sharp prints with focused grain and consistent contrast edge to edge.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I should have bought one years ago. The best thing about this alignment tool is that it is so easy to use.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good I have an enlarger that cannot be aligned but even using the laser was good. Clearly after installing the stuff, I realized my enlarger has not been aligned all this while resulting in parts of my picture being blur. So what did I do to rectify the inability to align the enlarger? I simply adjusted the leveling if the easel and the laser reflection is spot on and my photos are sharp!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great way to align an enlarger I find this to be a great way to align an enlarger. It is self contained and easy to use. There are no bubble levels or shims, etc. Just sit it under the enlarger, install the reflector, and it is ready to go. Worth the money.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Simple but effective! After years of struggling with levels and rulers I finally took the plunge and bought this product and now I can easily check and align my enlarger in a matter of minutes. No guess work!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Doesn't lay flat. If I press on one corner there is a slight rocking which changes later position.
