Versalab PARALLEL Overview

Beautiful photography requires precision. Never again wonder if your enlarger or copy stand is aligned properly. Find out instantly and accurately. The Parallel Alignment Guide is a small, battery powered, very carefully aligned laser beam projector. Used with the supplied reflectors, it becomes a very clear and simple alignment indicating system. Accuracy of alignment is indicated by the position of the red reflected laser dot. If everything is parallel, the red dot is reflected back to the center of the taget. Misalignment becomes obvious if the dot is anywhere other than the center of the target. The progress of corrective adjustment is easily followed by watching the position of the dot as it moves in response to the changing alignment.

The Parallel is fast and easy. Set the Parallel on the easel and turn it on. Hold the reflector against the face of the lens (or remove lens and substitute the reflector for the negative in the negative carrier) and the alignment is instantly verified. No squinting. The Parallel itself does not need to be carefully aligned or installed. Simply place it close to the middle of the easel. Your hands are now free to work on the equipment. Comes ready to use with any enlarger up to 4x5". An inexpensive option is available for 8x10".

I bought mine in 2003. Still working 21 years later with the original battery! - I have never had to open it up. I use this Versalab Parallel to align my Omega Pro Lab II and Saunders LPL 4500 II enlargers. When not in use I keep it stored in it original protective packaging. This is a precision optical instrument.

You need this!

If you print in a darkroom and shoot film, you need this tool. The laser tells you if your enlarger is properly level and aligned. I had my enlarger set up and used levels, but I was getting some light and exposures in the corner of my prints. When I received this item, the laser showed me my lens was way out of alignment. Once I used this laser, which took only minutes to set up, my enlarger was perfect. If you print traditionally, you need this laser!

question

use with a DSLR?
Asked by: Ron F.
Hello Ron,If you are thinking of using the Versalab gauge to align a DSLR for copywork, It should work without complications. The type of camera doesn't matter to the alignment process. The laser beam is reflected from a mirror held against the front surface of the camera or enlarger lens. This product is well designed and solid. The only wrinkle was that I had to replace the batteries before I could use it. They were completely flat on arrival.Regards,Peter M.
