Doesn't fit the Nikon 300 mm f/2.8
This cap doesn't fit the Nikon 300 mm f/2.8 lens. It's very close, but won't quite go on. Maybe if it was trimmed with a Dremel tool it could be made to squeeze over. The lens end measures about 116 mm. If it fit, it would fit inside the lens hood when reversed.
If you have an Orion 80ED, this might be your only option...
Nice cap. It is truly for 115mm outer diameter lenses/fittings. It is well made. The company used to make a 112mm outer diameter cap, but these are difficult to find. That is the size cap you need for an Orion 80ED if you remove the dew cap to turn it into more of a travel scope. So in comes the 115mm as a replacement. I added some adhesive-backed felt from Michael's (cut into thin strips). Three tightly pressed layers placed one at a time did the trick. It creates a nice, tight fit over the lens. Now I just need a protective, soft, carry-on friendly bag for the scope and a travel tripod and I will be all set. Might B&H have those? ; )
