Voigtlander 35mm f/1.2 Nokton Aspherical SE Overview

Featuring a refined design that is impressively sleek and lightweight, the Voigtlander Nokton 35mm f/1.2 Aspherical SE is a fast, compact, and versatile wide-angle prime for Sony E-mount mirrorless cameras. Featuring an optimized optical design, two aspherical elements are used to reduce spherical aberrations and distortion for impressive clarity and sharpness throughout the aperture range. Wide-angle prime is designed for full-frame Sony E-mount mirrorless cameras, but can also be used with APS-C models where it provides a 52.5mm equivalent focal length.
Notably fast f/1.2 maximum aperture helps control depth of field for shallow depth of field shooting, and also benefits working in difficult lighting conditions.
Two aspherical elements are used to reduce field curvature, distortion, and spherical aberrations for improved clarity and sharpness.
Manual focus design enables a minimum focusing distance of 11.8".
SE (Stills Edition) version features clicked aperture detents for more tactile control over aperture switching in 1/3-stop increments.
A 12-blade diaphragm contributes to a smooth and pleasing bokeh quality.
Electronic contacts relay Exif information to the camera for accurate focus assist functions and metadata recording.

Voigtlander 35mm f/1.2 Nokton Aspherical SE Reviews

Superb travel and carry lens

I learned to shoot on an old Voigtlander film camera. There are lots of excellent technical reviews, so I’ll focus on my impressions. Build quality is excellent and I have no worries traveling with it. Image quality is very good, especially as I learn the lens better. It’s small enough for street and travel photography and delivers images with both precision and personality. Overall, highly recommend, even if you’re not experienced with manual focus lenses.

Excellent 35mm Prime Lens

This is an excellent 35mm fast prime lens for Sony. It is quite sharp, and provides beautiful background blur / bokeh with a nice dreamy look. It is small and compact and balances very well on my a7III. All metal build feels great but it is not heavy. Focussing is smooth as silk with the right amount of tension; aperture control ring is easy to use. It is very quick and easy to manually focus with a7III (automatic magnification with turning of focus ring and focus peaking). Overall, I am very happy with this lens and it is a fantastic compact all-purpose prime lens. I have sold my excellent Canon EF 35 1.4 II L as a result of this (sharper but too heavy and big; used on both Canon and Sony bodies). Highly recommended.

Is there going to be a non-SE version of this ...

Is there going to be a non-SE version of this lens? I would prefer to have a de-clickable aperture ring.
