It is very red and very dim but if it were me I would contact Harman since they require a very specific red(I think it is a 906?) for their direct positive paper. It sounds like an interesting project.

I replaced a ceiling light bulb with two of these bulbs in my bathroom darkroom, and performed a safelight test, which it passes flawlessly. They do not each put out very much light but with two in the ceiling it is sufficient for my 5ftx10ft space. I would assume that it would be safe at any distance if you chose to put it into a desk lamp for example, but I have not performed a test at that distance.
