Meopta MeoPro Air 10x42 Overview

The Meopta 10x42 MeoPro Air HDED+ Binoculars provide a superior viewing and handling experience by combining well-engineered optics and a wide field of view in a lightweight and ergonomic housing.

Extra-low dispersion (ED) fluoride glass lenses, treated with proprietary anti-reflection MeoBright multicoatings, and compact Schmidt-Pechan prisms deliver vivid true-color images that are bright and crisp across the entire field of view. The lenses are further treated with Meopta's proprietary MeoShield and MeoDrop exterior coatings that protect the lens surfaces from scratches and makes cleaning oils and other contaminants easy without leaving residue. These coatings ensure the lenses stay free from imperfections that can interfere with your glassing experience and let you immerse yourself in the view.

Meopta designed the binoculars with ergonomics in mind to minimize user fatigue during long observations. Its large center focusing wheel is easy to use with either hand and a dioptric correction dial, located on the focusing knob, ensures precise focusing even if you normally wear corrective eyeglasses. Giving truth to the Air's name, the housing is made from a lightweight and durable magnesium alloy that is center weighted by the prism design, so they sit comfortably in the hand, and they have an open-bridge/dual-hinge design that further cuts weight without sacrificing strength or stability. Protective rubber armor wraps the body and provides a slip-resistant grip, especially in cold and wet conditions. The housing is nitrogen filled and sealed to be waterproof and resistant to internal fogging in extreme conditions.

Optical Performance
  • High 10x power magnifies the view, allowing detailed observation of distant subjects
  • 42mm objective lenses deliver bright views even in challenging light conditions without being too bulky or heavy
  • Schimdt-Pechan roof prism design allows for thinner optical tubes versus the more common Abbe-Koenig design, resulting in an easier-to-hold form factor without compromising performance
  • Extra-low dispersion (ED) fluoride glass objective lenses correct chromatic aberrations and fringing to deliver bright and clear high-contrast and high-resolution views with accurate color representation
  • Proprietary ion-assisted MeoBright multicoatings deliver 99.7% light transmission while suppressing glare
  • MeoShield exterior coating protects lenses from scratches or abrasions
  • MeoDrop lens coatings repel water and allow grease, skin oils, and surface contaminants to be removed without residue that can impair view clarity
  • Wide 65° apparent angle of view provides sweeping views of the terrain with reduced appearance of the distracting hand shake that is common when holding high-power optics
  • Generous 341-foot field of view at 1000 yards
Use and Handling
  • Open-bridge/dual-hinge configuration reduces weight without sacrificing strength or stability
  • Large slip-resistant center focusing knob with ±3 dioptric correction dial is easy to manipulate in cold and wet conditions, even while wearing gloves
  • Diopter adjustment integrated into the focusing wheel sets the desired correction for those whose eyesight require corrective lenses
  • Wide 56-74mm interpupillary adjustment range
  • Twist-up rubber eyecups for easy use with or without eyewear
  • Long 18mm eye relief reduces eyestrain during long glassing sessions
  • 4.2mm exit pupil will cover most pupils as they open and dilate in fading light to avoid vignetting of the view

Meopta MeoPro Air 10x42 Reviews

Opitically very good, but....

As a birder I have used and reviewed over 50 different binocular models over the last 40 years. The optics themselves are very good - which is no surprise, as pretty much any Meopta product always has crisp clear optical quality which is extraordinarily important for my type of avian research. However....the focusing wheel is waaaay too tight/resilient. This might be fine for non-wildlife observation but it is not conducive to active wildlife(particularly bird) observation where you need to change focus quickly and abruptly at a moments notice. Trying to get on and follow a small bird in a tree was for lack of better words challenging in that the focusing wheel is very tight and resistant. Don't get me wrong - I turned it as needed, but it wasn't something I would recommend to anyone who is an active birder, hunter or experienced naturalist. And one thing....the term Air in the title is misleading at best. These are heavy. As a relative big guy it didn't bother me much, but compared to the dozens of other high quality optics I have reviewed - these have some wright to them. In short - sure you can feel the strength and superb craftsmanship in these binoculars, but the weight of that quality is also evident. I would recommend one of those OverAll/Harness type of Straps if you have these and use them for hours at a time. In short - typical excellent Meopta optical quality, but need to work out a couple of these other issues for serious nature people or hunters.

Awesome binos
