Tilta TA-BSP-15 Reviews
Quality
I love the quality, but I do wish the standard Tilta mounting option on the bottom wasn't so pricey and had more length options.
Bad Design - Camera stuck on this plate forever.
I was heavily invested in Tilta with their universal base plate shoulder rig, follow focus, power plates & handles and matte box. When I got my GH6 cage there was no plate that is compatible with the shoulder rig. Support told me that the universal base plate uses a standard tilta dovetail mount and if I wanted to use my GH6 cage with it, all I had to do is order LWS Basepplate Type I. So, I did and it doesn't work. The Tilta support gave me bad information and now I'm several hundred dollars deeper into the Tilta ecosystem. If that wasn't bad enough, I've found that there is a major flaw in the left/right sliding design of this QR plate system. I mounted my brand new GH6 on the QR plate and slid it into the LWS baseplate and it locked as designed. After a few mounting/unmounting cycles, the qr plate/camera will no longer come off. It slides about an inch and then hangs on something underneath, possibly a baseplate screw that rattled loose. The only way to get the camera out of the cage is with a metal grinder. There's a reason why tried and true QR plates mount from the top and not the side. Support was so horrible I may as well have been talking to the Adam Sandler and David Spade characters from the SNL retail sales girls sketch were the angry customer brings back the pants that they recommended to buy online and come to find out they're not even pants. Sales girl #1, Did you cinch it?. Customer, What are talking about, they're not even pants! Sales girl #2 Yeah, you gotta cinch it. I'm done with Tilta's disfunctional eye candy and their planned obsolescence.
