Rotolight NEO 2 Overview

The Rotolight Video Conferencing Kit is well suited for videoconference meetings, providing you with a soft key light that provides a sparkle in your eyes and helps you look your best and stand out. The Rotolight NEO 2 mounts on the included mini tripod with ball joint head. This allows you to place the light on your desk and avoids the need for a separate light stand. The Rotolight is powerful but dimmable, allowing you to set the brightness to match the conditions of your space, be it bright and well lit with daylight streaming through windows or a more subdued environment with dim ambient light.

The mini tripod allows you to position the NEO 2 for the most flattering effect, and the variable color temperature output allows you to adjust for the ambient color of the light in the room. To soften the light's output, you can use the included diffusion filters, either the 216 or the less dense 250. The included 184 cosmetic filter can also soften the light's output and put a slight warm glow onto your face.

Both continuous and flash modes are available so users can quickly switch between video and still shooting without needing to change out the lights.
The built-in 2.4 GHz Elinchrom Skyport Receiver makes it possible to use the NEO 2 as a remote flash with high-speed sync support up to 1/8000 second. This requires the use of an optional Elinchrom Skyport Transmitter, and it allows for remote control over the NEO 2 from up to 656' away. Users can also sync using a wired PC sync or 3.5mm connection.
The NEO 2 features Accu-Colour technology to ensure optimal color rendering, proven by the rated CRI of 96 and TLCI of 91. Output has been significantly improved as well, with an increase of 85% over its predecessor and a flash mode that boosts output by 500% for stills and helps freeze action. At maximum power, this results in an output of 2000 lux at 3'. The NEO 2 uses six readily available AA batteries (not included) for power.
Local dimming and controls are made possible through a rear display and two dials/buttons on the rear of the fixture.
True Aperture Dimming uses shutter speed and ISO information, as well as distance data, to calculate the proper aperture for your shot. It improves speed and use and helps shooters quickly get the appropriate power settings for their subjects.
Designer Fade mode allows users to program fade-up and fade-down effects, including the ability to set the duration.
Cinematographic Special FX, or CineSFX, features a variety of different settings and modes to create ambiance in your scene. This includes options for strobe, lightning, throb, color cycle, fire, police, television, and more.
No recycle time or power loss is evident when using the NEO 2, making it a suitable option for high frame rates.
For power, users have the options of six AA NiMH or Li-ion batteries or AC power from the included adapter. When running on batteries, the NEO 2 can run for 85,000 full-power flashes or 1.5 hours of continuous lighting.
The NEO 2 can be mounted easily using the three 1/4"-20 tripod threads located around the edge of the light. A shoe mount adapter is included as well for using the NEO 2 as an on-camera light.
The included filter kit features a 216 Full Diffuser, 250 Medium Diffuser, 184 Cosmetic Peach, and a 279 1/8 Magenta for creating unique or more flattering light for your subject.

The Neo 2 is a two-fer: continuous lighting and a strobe. PLUS it has a wide ISO range, brightness adjustments and built-in Elicnchrom receiver. The special-effects are a bonus and, if you're dabbling into video, a great way to add realistic lighting effects to your work.

Just got my 3 light kit, 1 of the light is defective out of the box. I had the original Neo kit, never had any issue with the lights, and the original hard case felt way more sturdy. seems like Rotolight went cheap with Neo II. Just emailed B&H, see if we can get this problem resolved.

I bought this and the Aeos and anova pro 2 about 15 months ago. They have been kept in their cases when not in use and only used a handful of times (COVID :/). I have 2 of the Neo 2's. The right knob on one of them no longer presses in like it's supposed to, it feels jammed. Also the light makes a buzzing noise and warns of low batteries even when I put in brand new batteries. Both on my neo 2's have an issue where they constantly switch back to flash mode when I have the trigger on my camera. The aeos and anova pro 2 don't experience this and seem to be built to a considerably higher quality standard. It would be nice if the neo 2 was just a smaller version of the aeos but equal in quality. That is definitely not the case, the neo is very plastic while the aeos' knobs and back panel is made of metal. There is no visible damage to any of my lights, I treat all this stuff with extreeme care so I'm surprised and quite upset these expensive little lights failed after just 15 months of owning them. I reached out to rotolight about getting the neo 2's repaired and they told me it would be 67 for return shipping to Canada. A quick package shipping estimate calculator using royal mail said the cost should be 17 to get it shipped to me so I have no idea why rotolight would charge so much. I voiced this to them and they promptly stopped replying to me. So much for customer service.

I have used Rotolight Neos and Neo 2s for several years now... Neo 2s give off diffuse light across the temperature and intensity ranges of the light... Great for a lot of applications...

Pretty amazing piece of engineering and so versatile! I shoot very little without using these guys somewhere, somehow. Use with the iPowerMAX AA batteries and can shoot much longer than I had imagined!

I've already got an Aputure HR672W so I don't need a light but I like the stand that's included in this kit. Is something similar available for separate purchase?

According to Rotolight, the desktop light stand included in the Rotolight Video Conferencing Kit is not yet available as a separate purchase at this time, but may be available later as a separate purchasable accessory. Once it is available, we should have it listed on our website, though as of the date/time of this reply, I cannot state exactly when this will occur. As such, I would simply recommend to periodically check our website for the Rotolight desktop light stand. . As an alternative, the Smith-Victor Tabletop or Background Light Stand (18"), B&H # SMTTBP18, and the Studio Essentials Tabletop Light Stand (18"), B&H # STLS301, may also work for your usage needs. If you can handle a slightly larger footprint, the Impact LS-K4 Micro Kit Stand - 48", BH #IMLSK4, would be larger, but smaller than standard light stands and another good recommendation.

This depends on your use-case. The Neo 2 will provide light in the darkness. As long as your subject is close enough, you should get a usable image.
