Blackmagic Design Atem Streaming Bridge Reviews

First Streaming Bridge was dead on arrival.

My first Streaming Bridge was dead on arrival. I have never been able to get it to work. Unfortunately I didn't get around to calling Black Magic until after the one year warranty was expired. They would not give me a refund. So I finally had a situation where I really needed one so I ordered a second one. They said the instructions were in the ATEM Mini user manual. I never found them but found instructions online in another thread. IMPORTANT: it will not connect to an ATEM mini until you configure the Output of the ATEM mini to be Streaming Bridge. Also I found that on some minis that option was not available in the Output drop down. I had to go into the XML file, add it and do a restore. This was not clear in the instructions and I wasted a lot of time. Also the Black Magic tech was apparently not aware of this as he didn't mention it when we were troubleshooting the first one. The second one seems to be working as advertised. NOTE: This is the second time the BM tech people have failed to tell me something important and caused me to waste huge amounts of time figuring it out on my own!!! They apparently are not trained on the specifics of each device and don't have a database of known problems. Also do not download the Software Control version 9.4. It would not allow me to drag media files into the media window!! I had to go back to 8.6.5. This was another thing recommended by tech support! Other than tech support I have had a good experience with Black Magic.

Streaming Bridge hidden use

I bought this for one use only.....well, maybe a couple. My main use is so that I can use my atem mini pro iso to record iso and to be able to use a usb-c at the same time. (the atem mini extreme solved this). It is a great piece of kit that has tons of future potential as well

If this is used to connect over the internet, would the quality be sufficient to remotely pull a chroma key from the feed?
Asked by: Darin
Pulling a chroma Key from a compressed image would be difficult, an uncompressed signal is recommended for pulling any sort of key

Can it be used as program out from here ATEM Mini Pro ethernet and will it have latency via SDI and HDMI out?
Asked by: Danny
The ATEM Mini Pro can stream via Ethernet to the ATEM Streaming Bridge. If the bridge is on a local network, the latency would be noticeable but under a second.

To clarify the previous question about feeding ...

To clarify the previous question about feeding lobby TVs via the bridge while also streaming, as there 2 similar questions with opposite answers given here... With the ATEM Mini Pro AND Streaming bridge connected to the same, switched ethernet network, is it possible to stream to YouTube, etc. AND to the ATEM Streaming Bridge (for a lobby TV), both via ethernet, not the USB output, at the same time?
Asked by: Chuck
The ATEM Mini Pro or ISO can only stream to one location at a time via Ethernet. This can be one Streaming Bridge or one Streaming Service. It cannot do both. There is only one streaming encoder. There is no way to get around this. At the same time it is possible to connect the USB to a computer as a Web cam and stream to another service using a third party app. I hope this clears it up.

If I'm understanding correctly - only way to bring feed in is ethernet? AMP HDMI output to SDI converter to bridge won't work? And, then, would I be able to stream from original AMP since ethernet port left open? Alternatively, ethernet connection to bridge; HDMI out from bridge to second AMP or any other streaming device to be able to use other outputs from this (SDI) to stream?
Asked by: Mark
Correct, you can only bring in video over ethernet from an ATEM Mini Pro or ATEM Mini Pro ISO. SDI video into the ATEM Streaming Bridge will not work. The HDMI and 2 SDI outputs on the ATEM Streaming Bridge will output the program feed coming in over ethernet from the first AMP. Those outputs can be connected to any device that support the video format you're sending out.

Related to a hardware functionality question on the Pro, will it be possible via firmware update to send a single fixed input to this device through Ethernet, and a switched program out through USB?
Asked by: Mark
We cannot speak about the future. A purchase decision should not be made on what might be possible.
