The Wolverine 82mm Variable Neutral Density Filter from Kase provides an increase in neutral density through a 3-stop range from 2 to 5 stops. Increasing neutral density offers finer control in available shutter speeds or aperture settings for both still and video applications. Using a longer shutter speed makes it possible to increase blur to convey a sense of movement or dial in a video camera frame rate. Increased density also makes it possible to shoot using a wider lens aperture, helping to isolate a subject from the background and increasing bokeh. Density is easily adjusted by using the removable adjustment handle and does not produce the "X" effect common on lower-quality variable ND filters.
The filter ring has traditional threads to attach to any type of lens with 82mm filter threads, and it has an unthreaded magnetic filter receiver on the front to hold 86mm-diameter magnetic filters. The filter is made of virtually indestructible, shockproof optical glass. It features a nano coating on each optical surface for reduced lens glare and optimal light transmission. The coating also resists water, oil, dust, fingerprints, and scratches, making it ideal for use in harsh environments and easy to clean.
