APC AP8931 Overview

Take advantage of outlet-level control with the AP8931 8-Outlet Switched Zero RU 2G Rack PDU (15A, 100-120V) from APC. Designed for user-tailored power control, this power distribution unit uses a NEMA 5-15P input connection and sports eight NEMA 5-15R outlets. An RJ12 serial and RJ45 Base-T Ethernet port provide interfacing options, while a USB Type-A port can be used to deploy firmware upgrades via a flash drive. Network sharing ports are also present, as is a networking port for use with the optional APC Temp and Humidity Sensor. Alongside simple controls, this PDU's interface panel also includes LEDs for status conditions, including warning and overload indicators.

Thanks to the switched design, users can turn individual outlets on or off, allowing for power cycling, remote reboots, or restriction against unauthorized use. Sequencing delays can be used to order when attached equipment powers up or down, and prioritized load shedding can be implemented to avoid circuit overload. Users can define alarms to suit preferred parameters for optimum circuit protection. Featuring a load capacity of 1440VA or 1400W, this PDU delivers 120V at 15A. Designed to be installed vertically on racks or enclosures, the APC AP8931 comes with mounting hardware and a serial configuration cable, and features a 10' power cord.

Input and Output Connections
Product family includes a variety of input and output connections to distribute 120V, 208V, or 230V power to multiple outlets. Having a variety of inputs and outputs allows users to adapt to varying power requirements.
Single Input Power Source
Supply power from one branch whip to multiple pieces of equipment, conveniently powering rackmount equipment. Saves time and money during installation by using one branch whip and standard connections.
Vertical Mounting Capabilities
This PDU easily mounts vertically in racks or enclosures and occupies zero units of rack space, allowing for more equipment in the rack.
Alarm Thresholds
Define alarm thresholds in order to avoid overloaded circuits. Network and visual alarms inform the user of possible problems.
Remote Management Capabilities
Network management interfaces provide standards-based management via web, SNMP, and Telnet. Allows users to access, configure, and manage units from remote locations to save valuable time. Associated with this feature is the ability to quickly and easily upgrade the firmware via network download to installed units for future product enhancements.
Multi-Tier User Access
This PDU supports up to four access levels, including Administrator, Device User, Read-Only User, and Network-Only User. All access levels feature user name and password requirements.
Power Delays
Configure the sequence in which power is turned on or off for each outlet. This helps avoid in-rushes at start-up, which can cause overloaded circuits and dropped loads. Sequencing also allows users to predetermine which piece of equipment is turned on first so secondary or dependant equipment will function properly.
Network Port Sharing
Connect four rack PDUs using the In and Out ports so that only one network connection is necessary.
Remote Individual Outlet Control
Remotely manage outlets so users can turn unused outlets off, preventing overloads. Or, recycle power to locked-up equipment and minimize downtime while also eliminating travel time to equipment.
Local Current Monitoring Display
The aggregate current draw per rack PDU is displayed on the unit via a digital display. The local digital display helps installers avoid overloaded circuits by providing a visible warning when the current draw is close to the maximum amperage draw of the strip.
Flash Upgradeable
Quickly and easily upgrade firmware via network download for future product enhancements. Eliminates the need to replace products already installed in the field when new features are released.
Integrates with StruxureWare Data Center Expert
An IT-ready, scalable access monitoring system collects, organizes, and distributes critical alerts, surveillance video, and key information, providing a unified view of complex physical infrastructure environments from anywhere on the network.
Load indicator LED
LEDs indicate overload and warning conditions based on user-defined alarm thresholds, including potentially overloaded circuits.

This is almost certainly the most expensive (8) NEMA 5-15R receptacle, 120V PDU being sold in today’s market. However if you need highly advanced features such as user-customizable power control and active monitoring and power sequencing delays which allow you to define the order in which you power up or down attached equipment, this is your PDU! A temperature/humidity sensor port and many other highly usable features make this an amazing device!
