BOYA BY-BM6060 Overview

Bundled with a furry windshield, a foam windscreen, and a vibration-reducing shockmount for clean audio with minimal extraneous noise, the BOYA BY-BM6060 shotgun microphone offers an affordable solution for videographers, indie filmmakers, and boom operators who need a flexible, full-size shotgun mic on a tight budget.

The supercardioid polar pattern delivers focused pickup in front of the mic and the switchable 150 Hz high-pass filter attenuates rumble and low-frequency handling noise. The mic's low-noise circuitry and wide 60 Hz to 20 kHz frequency response allow quality signal capture for speech, ambient sound, and sound effects. Wind noise can be effectively reduced using the supplied windshield and windscreen.

To ensure reliable operation with a variety of devices such as cameras, mixer adapters, and portable audio recorders, the BY-BM6060 microphone runs on a single AA battery or 12 to 48 VDC phantom power. It utilizes a balanced XLR output for straightforward connectivity.

Sturdy and Lightweight
Built with an aluminum-alloy housing, the BY-BM6060 offers ruggedness while remaining lightweight, a welcome combination for comfortable use on boompoles.
Supercardioid Polar Pattern
The BY-BM6060's supercardioid polar pattern delivers focused responsiveness in front of the mic, moderate rejection at the rear, and enhanced attenuation at the sides, making it well suited for recording subjects outdoors or in acoustically treated rooms.
Full-Range Frequency Reproduction
The wide 60 Hz to 20 kHz frequency response of the microphone allows it to accurately capture speech, ambient sounds, and more. The switchable high-pass filter attenuates low frequencies below 150 Hz to help you control difficult bass issues such as rumble and traffic noise.
Battery or Phantom Powered
Able to be run on a single AA battery or 12 to 48 VDC phantom power, the BY-BM6060 can be used with DSLRs, mirrorless cameras, professional camcorders, field recorders, and handheld audio recorders. The XLR 3-pin output provides a balanced, high-quality connection point.
Wind Protection
Use the included foam windscreen to control noise from light breezes or indoor turbulence from fans. Switch to the supplied furry windshield for enhanced wind noise reduction when recording outdoors.
Shockmount Inhibits Handling Noise
The BY-BM6060 comes with a shockmount that decouples the mic from your camera, boompole, or stand, thereby inhibiting vibrations and handling noise.

I use mine on my desk for my computer, so I don't know how it works as an actual shotgun mic. But I really enjoy it, once I set up a noise gate in the software, it worked perfectly. The cardioid is really solid.

Great quality for the price

We use this in a hybrid in-person/online classroom so online students can hear those in the room better. We also plan to use it as an on-camera mic for student film productions after the pandemic. Excellent choice for an affordable directional mic. Comes with an elastic cage to mount it on a camera without picking up camera noise. Also comes with two great windscreens. Better than mics costing twice as much.

There appear to be three settings for the high-pass filter: the switch can be positioned towards the front of the mic (bent line symbol), in the middle (straight line symbol), or towards the back of the mic (circle symbol). I gather the bent line represents "hi-pass filter on", the straight line "hi-pass filter off", but what does the circle setting do?
Asked by: Martin
The circle setting turns the mic off.

How long is the cord? Can a longer cord be attached? What type of cord?

The BOYA BY-BM6060 does not include a cable. The mic has an XLR output and can be powered by a single AA battery or phantom power. If you are connecting the mic directly to the mic input on a DSLR, mirrorless camera, or a camera or recorder with a 3.5mm mic input, then you will need to use a battery to power the mic and you can use an XLR female to 3.5mm TRS male cable. To connect the BY-BM6060 to a camera or recorder with an XLR mic input, use an XLR female to XLR male cable. If the device can supply phantom power, then a battery is not required to power the mic. However, if the device cannot supply phantom power or if you do not want to use power from the device, then use a battery is required. The cable can be as short or as long as needed.
