Ambient Recording QP 5100 Overview

Designed for discerning and demanding professional boom operators and location sound recordists, the Ambient Recording QP5100 QuickPole Series 5 carbon fiber 5-section boompole offers the ultralight weight of Ambient's QXS poles and the stability of their QP series booms. The QP5100 extends from 3.4 to 13.2 feet.

The QP5100's new design features a tube made from a custom carbon fiber compound with UHM fiber layering and anti-twist mechanisms that use serrations instead of retention pins, yielding impressive sturdiness and effortless maintenance. Additional design enhancements allow the QP5100 to lock and unlock with a mere quarter turn and to facilely and quickly extend and collapse.

Thanks to the removable tip and separately available cable sets, the QP5100 can easily be configured for internal cabling, no soldering required.

Light and Sturdy
Ambient's Series 5 boompoles combine the best properties of their QXS and QP series thanks to their new tube technology, which uses a custom-made carbon fiber compound with added UHM fiber layering. With this technology, the QuickPole Series 5 boompole becomes as sturdy as the QP 4-segment series while remaining as lightweight as the QXS 5-segment series.
Easy Operation
On set, you have to work fast. The QuickPole Series 5 addresses that with a key feature—the new Teflon sheet plus silicone-lubricated felts that make for silky-smooth extending and collapsing of the boompole. The telescoping function of the pole works so efficiently that you'll be able to capture any sound source. The re-engineered locks give you a better grip thanks to the refined knurling and slightly extended length. By tuning the threading further, only a quarter turn is needed to open and close the locks securely and quickly.
Intersectional Twist Protection
A new anti-twist mechanism utilizes an innovative serration in place of a retention pin. The lock pieces automatically fall into place when you disassemble and reassemble your pole for cleaning or maintenance, making the process effortless.
Cable Retrofit
The newly designed tip and separately available bottom end and cable set allow for easy, solder-free cable retrofit. Simply take off the tip, insert the pre-configured internal cabling, and plug it into the butt-end. No muss, no fuss—exactly how a coupling system should be.
Transport Options
For safe storage and transport of the QuickPole Series 5 boompole, optional water-repellent nylon boompole bags and sturdy PVC boom cases can be used.

Ambient Recording QP 5100 Reviews

Fantastic Boom

I moved up to this from a Ktek, and even with two mics on the top I'm surprised at how light it is. The bottom comes off, which allows me to fit it snugly into my 1740 hard case with enough padding on either side to know it won't get destroyed. The locking mechanisms can be a pain on occasion, but that might just be me. Overall, the best boom I've ever had the pleasure of using, and has been incredible for letting me have a M/S recording setup ready to go at a moment's notice for interesting ambience and wild sound on shoots.

Bottom pole XLR is loose

I wish this wasn't such a big deal, but it has effected my recordings and location work. I even returned the first pole and replaced it with the exact same model. Unfortunately the problem remains. I've even bought new cables and tested with different mics. When I looked at the male XLR I noticed is in fact loose and seems to be manufactured that way. For a pole that's close to $1000 you'd think this wouldn't be the reason for a return. Save your money and get a K-Tek
