Pairing a versatile zoom range with a fast, constant f/2.8 maximum aperture, the Silver Edition HD PENTAX-D FA* 70-200mm f/2.8 ED DC AW is a telephoto zoom designed for Pentax K-mount DSLRs. Offering a 105-300mm-equivalent focal length range with APS-C cameras, this lens is particularly well-suited to sports, landscape, and wildlife uses, especially when working in trying light conditions. Extra-low dispersion glass elements have been incorporated within the optical design to minimize chromatic aberrations and distortions, as well as produce a high degree of sharpness from edge-to-edge. HD and Aero Bright coatings have also been applied to lens elements to reduce reflections and flare and a Super Protect coating also helps to shield the front and rear elements from dust, water, and oils. Further enabling its use in difficult conditions, this 70-200mm f/2.8 also features a weather-resistant construction with 13 separate seals to block moisture and dust from entering the lens.

Is the silver part of the lens on the silver version made out of metal or it is plastic coated with silver layer?

The Pentax HD PENTAX-D FA* 70-200mm f/2.8 ED DC AW Silver Edition Lens is manufactured from a machined aluminum barrel and has a finely textured finish. The silver finish is simply painted aluminum metal.

While 645z is a Pentax DSLR camera, too, the lens is designed for Pentax K DSLRs, i.e. recent APS-C cameras and a FF K-1). The lens is not compatible with 645z.

question

I really love my K3 and do pet photography with it. I need a good zoom that's quick on AF. The Pentax smc PENTAX-DA* 50-135mm f/2.8 ED (IF) SDM Lens just doesn't autofocus quickly enough. The web page for this new Pentax 70-200 says The Quick-Shift Focus System allows you to first use autofocus to acquire general focus on a subject, then instantly refine your focus position manually without the need for an AF/MF selector. Is this Pentax again not being able to pinpoint focus the way Canon, Nikon, Tamron and Sigma seem capable of, or do we have a genuine capability here for instant lock on moving objects equivalent to say the Tamron 70-200?
Asked by: Anonymous
Well, Pentax AF is not that fast and accurate. DFA 70-200 is twice slower than Nikon and Canon 70-200 base on the test. AF-C is still not possible for accurate and sharp images. If you are a fast user, then Pentax is not your camera.
