Sachtler aktiv6 Sideload Fluid Head with SpeedLevel & 3-Step Drag for Sachtler Tripods (75mm)

The aktiv6 Sideload Fluid Head uses Sachtler's truly innovative SpeedLevel technology to provide almost instant mounting and leveling of your camera rig on Sachtler 75mm tripod legs. The clamp and stud SpeedLevel system saves precious time leveling your camera rig by eliminating the need to screw on a tie-down knob. Designed for DSLRs, mirrorless, and digital cine-style cameras, the aktiv6 supports rigs weighing up to 17.6 pounds. This fluid head features 15 steps of counterbalance and three steps of pan and tilt drag adjustment, plus zero settings for both balance and drag.

The SpeedLevel technology replaces the traditional head screw and tie-down design with a strong clamp built into the head bowl and a stud component that clamps onto your tripod bowl or other mounting platform, such as a slider. Simply grasp the large lever on the head and pull it up to release the clamp, then press it down to lock your head in place. Partially lifting the lever allows you to quickly and easily level the head.

When used with a separately available flowtech tripod, the activ6 enables you to spread the legs flat, getting as low to the ground as your head can without a tie-down knob getting in the way. You can also mount your head directly onto a slider using a separately available aktiv system stud that screws onto support systems with a 3/8"-16 threaded stud.

The PrismBubble level system is pressed once to illuminate the bubble level to be illuminated or pressed twice to light up both the bubble level and the drag settings, a boon when working in darker environments. The bubble level also has a built-in prism, enabling you to more easily level the head when the legs are at set at maximum height or an awkward angle.

Mount your camera using the aktiv6 sliding balance plate with 1/4-20" screw and locating pin. With a sliding range of 4.7", this head adapts quickly to balance variously configured rigs. The Sachtler aktiv6 head also features a detachable pan bar that can be mounted onto the rosettes on either the right or left side of the head.

Sachtler flowtech 75 GS Carbon Fiber Tripod with Ground Spreader

The Sachtler flowtech 75 GS Carbon Fiber Tripod with Ground Spreader eschews the common single or double carbon fiber tube design and instead has redesigned the shape of the legs for improved torsional strength. The legs weigh just under 7 pounds yet they can support a payload of up to 44 pounds and extend from a minimum height of 10" to a maximum height of 62.2" when using the included ground spreader. Each leg features a single clamping lever that locks and unlocks the sections.

Each leg extends or retracts independently from the other two, and when it is detached from the spreader each leg can pivot without affecting the other legs. This is especially useful when working on rough or uneven terrain. You can remove the spreader completely and lock each leg in one of three positions, so you can work without a spreader if you wish. This enables you to spread the legs extremely wide for low shots, while the tripod legs maintain their torsional stability. The dual spikes at the end of each leg provide extra grip when working on softer ground without the spreader. An attachment point and carry handle are included.

Features
Dual-stage, carbon fiber, 75mm bowl tripod
The design and construction of the legs provide tremendous torsional stability. In other words, the legs resist twisting when you pan the tripod head.
The included ground spreader snaps easily onto the dual-spiked feet using a combination elastic and lever attachment system. The rubber feet are removable from the spreader and can be attached directly to the dual spiked feet of the legs for operation on hard/delicate surfaces without the spreader.
Each leg features a single clamping lever lock design at the top of the leg, near the 75mm bowl. This allows you to loosen all three leg sections from a single location, saving you time while reducing the wear and tear on your body as you don't have to bend down to loosen a leg lock at the bottom to lower or raise the legs.
The legs incorporate a locking mechanism that enables the legs to move completely freely, suitable when working with a spreader, or to lock at one of three angles, suitable for use when working without a spreader.

Sachtler Aktiv6 Tripod System Reviews

Worth it (while on sale)

I purchased this tripod when it was on sale. Highly recommend it. I was using a small rig tripod that was busted. This adds value to your work. It’s very sturdy. Setting it up took a little while but take your time to learn it and do it right. The adjustment on the fluid head is out of this world. Feels incredibly professional.

The best in the game

This tripod is simply the best in the game. The single point of contact to raise and lower the legs is the single biggest improvement over every other tripod I've ever owned. The Aktiv6 head is great for medium sized builds and I love the front balance system, another innovation that you never knew you needed until you try it. Highly recommended.

Is it possible to buy one of the spreaders ...

Is it possible to buy one of the spreaders separately so that you have the option of a ground spreader or mid spreader, depending on the terrain of the shoot?
Asked by: Jeremy
This kit for the Sachtler aktiv6 flowtech75 GS includes the ground-level spreaded. The mid-level spreader is available separately here: https://bhpho.to/3tA0hgw . Alternatively, you can start with the Sachtler aktive6 flowtech75 MS kit and buy the ground-level spreader. https://bhpho.to/3C1PZc7 https://bhpho.to/3C4LXQ3

What are the pros and cons when comparing middle and ground spreaders? Thanks.
Asked by: Steve K
Mid level spreaders are fast, always clean and can be use on uneven terrain.. However, you cannot get as low as with a ground spreader. You might consider it a tad less stable. Ground spreaders get dirty and are not good on uneven terrain. They must be removed at that time. (No big deal) They are good on flat surfaces particularly floors with delicate finishes. They are a tad more stable. Conclusion: if you need speed and clean, use mid level. If you need maximum stability, and are on smooth floors. go ground.

Would this support a fully rigged FX9 (monitor, transmitter etc.) or will I need the Aktiv 8?
Asked by: Antoine
The Sony FX9 is 10.58 lb (with Viewfinder, Eyepiece, Grip Remote Control, BP-U35 battery, SELP28135G LENS, an XQD memory card, handle, mic holder). I think the Sachtler aktiv6 could work. But the Sachtler aktiv8 would be more stable and a better choice for this payload.

The Aktiv6 has 3+0 steps of drag and the Aktiv8 has 7+0. Is the total amount of drag the same on both with the Aktiv8 having finer control or does the Aktiv8 have more overall drag?
Asked by: Marshall
The total amount of drag is not the same on the Aktiv6 and Aktiv8. There are 4 more units of drag on the Aktiv8 than the Aktiv6.

no, it is not an Arca-Swiss. Zacuto bottom plate has a 1/4" and 3/8" connection which will work with the aktiv6 camera plate

Does the pan bar slip when tilting up and down on ...

Does the pan bar slip when tilting up and down on the activ 6 head? I had a bad experience with an FSB 8T head doing just that, because Sachtler made the teeth too shallow for the pan bar to grip the rosette properly.
Asked by: Dale
It was not defective as far as I could tell. My employer bought three SpeedLock 75 systems with FSB 8T heads, and all three 8T's had fine-tooth rosettes on both sides, and pan bars slipped when tilting, even after tightening the HELL out of them.
