Proaim Atlas V2 Overview

From Manufacturer

Built with long working days in mind, the 38" Atlas V2 Video Production Cart from Proaim has a robust aluminum design made even more rigid by crossbars. The cart is modular and lets you integrate various add-ons to support additional gear such as a monitor, gimbal, laptop plate, and tripod.

The Atlas V2 has a collapsible design, and this aspect was incorporated without sacrifice to overall durability. The cart folds flat to a 7" thick form to allow you to easily load it into a trunk or similar space for transport. When folded flat this way, it can be rolled along on small built-in wheels, pulled by an integrated handle. The cart locks when it folds, so there's no worry of it coming apart when being rolled along. Folding, unfolding, and most other assembly/disassembly is done tool-free in as little as a few minutes.

The cart supports up to 1100 lb and moves smoothly and quietly on its 10" pneumatic wheels. The wheels have fully sealed bearings to ensure smooth and silent operation even with heavy loads. Two of the wheels rotate 360° and have foot brakes, which are designed to maintain their stopping capability even if the tires lose some of their thickness over time. The wheels attach to the cart via a dovetail mechanism that allows quicker attachment and removal.

The length of the top and bottom shelves is 38". One on side of the top shelf, the lip can be folded down so that you can more easily use the surface as a workspace for your laptop and other gear. The lip can be put back up to ensure that nothing rolls off the surface.

Two grip handles are included that feature hinge locks. Thanks to these hinge locks, the handles can be attached to the vertical posts of the cart without having to remove the top surface or anything else to make room for them. These handles allow you to maneuver the cart as well as lift it over steps and curbs. There are also grip cutouts on the lips of the top and bottom shelves. These provide an additional way of lifting the cart, such as over a curb.

Besides supporting add-ons, the Atlas V2 also offers threaded holes at multiple locations for attaching accessories. These consist of 1/4"-20, 3/8"-16, and ARRI-standard anti-twist 3/8"-16 threads.

Proaim Atlas V2 Reviews

Very, very well built.

It’s hard to understate the build quality of this cart. I’ve been renting the other industry standard cart made in the U.S. for a few months. Unsure if the build quality of the Atlas V2 would stack up. I decided the other brand was just outside my budget so I bought the 48” Atlas V2 when it went on sale. It just arrived and wow this thing is really well built. While the US made cart is very well designed and weight was a factor in their design, this thing is absolutely a beast. But not overly built in a way some things can be. The fit and finish is really really nice. I’m pretty picky about the details and Proaim really nailed it. Pros: The top and bottom deck are milled aluminum with zero flex. The flop down top tray rail adds strength to the top deck when it’s down well as the hinges are very sturdy. The version I have is not the piano hinge style. Milled aluminum hinges. The latch mechanism is very satisfying. There are zero sharp spots as far as I can seen. Everything is chamfered and milled smooth. The quality of mill work is not quite to the level of Tilta but pretty close. The connections are all well made. Not loose or fiddly at all. I’m 6’1” and the height of the top deck is very comfortable slightly taller than other carts. Cons It’s pretty heavy. Hard to call this a con because I wanted a sturdier cart than the Inovativ and really I dont see how they could have made this lighter without sacrificing rigidity. Not so much that packing it up and loading it into a car would be hard but you would not want to fly with it. The carpet on the two decks feels cheap. I’ll probable swap it out with a medium grey loop as to see small black screws and other bits. If you are looking for your first cart and don’t have the budget for the more expensive brands. You can’t go wrong. It would even work great as a one man simple g&e cart. In a studio environment where it stays built this cart is a no brainer. I’m massively pleased.

118 pounds of pure junk!

This looks okay in the pictures. And while the price is hard to accept, seems like the best option available here. Unfortunately it’s not as advertised. The cart is so incredibly heavy. The shelves are thick die-cast aluminum and it’s really difficult to install the top shelf with just one person. The locking pins for the uprights are janky and allow the top shelf to wobble and make noise with the slightest movement. The tires are hard to install and impossible to remove without a mallet (they should include one in the box!) The screw bosses on the sides have already stripped so it looks like they’re aluminum too. And the manual is rife with misspellings and poor grammar. This was such an expensive mistake and I can’t wait to get it back to Amazon to return!
