Sirui PH-10 Overview

The PH-10 Carbon Fiber Gimbal Head from Sirui is a great solution to the problem of shooting moving subjects with a long telephoto lens. Ball heads and 3-way heads can be cumbersome in fast-moving situations, but the gimbal head make a camera and heavy lens seemingly weightless and offers smooth and precise tracking for fast-moving subjects, like when shooting sports or wildlife.

The 8x multi-layer carbon fiber and aluminum alloy construction on the L-bracket gives the PH-10 a load capacity of 33 lb while weighing only 2.2 lb. Carbon fiber also reduces vibrations and provides better tolerance for temperature changes. The included Arca-type quick release place features an anti-twist lip to prevent unwanted movement and includes a 1/4"-20 and 3/8"-16 camera screw.

The height of the camera bed is adjustable, and the precision scales assist in precisely balancing a camera and lens set. When properly balanced, the set can be quickly and easily moved in any direction with minimal effort to track the subject.

  • Carbon fiber construction for reduced vibration
  • Arca-compatible quick release system with calibrated quick release platform
  • Includes quick release plate with anti-twist lip
  • Horizontal 360° range, and tilt of +150° to -60°

Are true bearings (such as needle, cone or roller bearings) used in the bottom (pan) and the top (tilt) mechanisms, or do these mechanisms instead use lubricated bushings (such as bronze or teflon)? I ask because bushings are inferior over time as they fail much more quickly.
Asked by: Mark
The Sirui PH-10 Carbon Fiber Gimbal Head has true bearings throughout.

Does the PH10 have the same horrible drag adjustment in pan as the PH20, or did they fix it and get rid of the ratcheting at very slight drag?
Asked by: Stephen
The head pans very smoothly. I have not noticed any kind of ratcheting fe eling when panning. The panning nob does not offer a significant amount of tension adjust - it goes from smooth to locked with a very small adjustment. I have not found this to be an issue because the base tension is almost perfect for how I shoot.

Did they fix the PH20's awful drag adjustment in pan axis, or does the PH10 have the same ratcheting effect at very slight drag?
Asked by: Stephen
As far as I am aware, both the PH10 and PH20 have the same pan lock mechanism. Neither are known to have adjustable pan drag; it is simply a pan locking knob with no adjustment to tension.
