SHAPE Flex 3 Overview

The Large Flex Arm from SHAPE is a 12" mounting arm with detachable 1" (25mm) ball heads on both ends. It features double ball heads for maximum flexibility, a 1/4"-20 monitor/accessory screw mount on one end, and a 3/8"-16 mount with removable anti-twist pins on the other end. Large ratcheting levers let you secure each ball head separately.

Very useful arm

I have to say. It has several ballheads at each end so I can mount my monitor any which way and angle I want. It's the perfect length so I can be further away from my camera operator, due to Covid rules. I like the ratchet knobs as well.

Unacceptable Design Flaws

Flaws: - On Claps, the screw length is too short, meaning if you release enough tension to remove one of the components (ball joint or extension), the tightening nut falls off, the entire clamp falls apart AND 3 washers go everywhere). I tried this multiple times and could not loosen the clamps without completely disassembling them. - Ball joints have no holes in knurled grip, meaning that the ball joint can only be finger tight. Does not allow for enough leverage to fully tighten the ball joing onto the mounting surface. In order to actually secure the ball to the mounting surface i had to use two pairs of channel-locks. Pros: Once ball joints are secure, and you learn to never ever disassemble the arm, it holds very securely. Conclusion: This is a cheap accessory for the DIY enthusiast, not a professional product by any means. I would never ever use this on a set, especially on-location. There are too many possibilities of losing a small critical part.

What weight load can this arm hold? I need ...

What weight load can this arm hold? I need something that can hold 6.8 lbs at least.

This arm is rated to hold 4 lbs you may want to consider something stronger if you plan to mount something that is 6.8 lbs.
