GeerFab Audio D.BOB Overview

Designed for audiophiles and cinephiles, the GeerFab Audio D.BOB is a digital breakout box that extracts the high-resolution audio from SACDs, Blu-ray, and DVD-based disks. The converter provides remarkable improvements in clarity, dynamics, focus, presence, definition, sound-staging, and more. A universal player with an HDMI output is required. Its HDMI pass-through allows for player menu settings and other video uses.

The D.BOB extracts DSD64 via the DoP (DSD over PCM) protocol and hi-res PCM up to 24-bit / 192 kHz through the S/PDIF coaxial and TOSLINK optical outputs to your (separately available) external DAC. The D.BOB is fully HDCP and copy-protection compliant. The unit includes a mini-USB port for firmware updates and ships with a IEC power cord.

Note:
Disc-Player Compatibility Note: The D.BOB only works with universal disc players with an HDMI output and only accepts HDMI signals. DAC Compatibility Note: The D.BOB works with most DACs. For DSD, the DAC must accept DoP via S/PDIF coaxial or TOSLINK.

No-Hassle SACD Playback

I bought a D.BOB (from B&H) that was delivered earlier this week. I was going to hook it up on Sunday, but instead of waiting, I decided that after work on Friday would suffice. I attached the D.BOB to my Sony UBP-X700's second audio only HDMI port and then ran an optical S/PDIF cable to OPT2 on my SMSL RAW-DAC1 (which supports DoP over all 4 of its S/PDIF connections). Once everything was plugged in and powered on successfully, I restarted my Blu-ray player and DAC (accommodating the D.BOB’s start-up sequence requirements). Next, I fed my Blu-ray player an SACD (Donald Fagen's The Nightfly) and it played without issue. My DAC assured me it was seeing a DoP data stream instead of PCM. I switched in a regular CD, and the DAC displayed PCM; then I put in a different SACD, and DoP was playing again. This whole process was very easy. I could not believe it. And, of course, everything sounded great. Really great. The D.BOB is a quality product that offers very pleasing results with very little effort. I can’t recommend it highly enough.

Excellent piece of audio gear. The D.BOB works just as stated by the manufacturer. It's awesome listening to my SACD's via my SONY UBP-X1100ES HDR 4K UHD Blu-Ray player and my external SMSL-SU8 DAC! Setup was a breeze. Great job GeerFab!

Yes, the GeerFab Audio D.BOB (Digital Breakout Box) could feed the S/PDIF Co-axial input of the DacMagic 200M Digital to Analogue Converter from its own S/PDIF Co-axial output connection.
