A staple on any film or video set, the Manfrotto 175F-2 Cold Shoe Clamp is a great way to lighten your gear bag while utilizing your on-camera flash to light your subject. The clamp allows on-the-go photographers to take advantage of the off-camera TTL capabilities of their camera systems to create mini kits of lightweight flashes, as well as support lights or cameras weighing up to 4.4 lb. Its jaw can clamp onto items up to 1.57" thick, such as chairs, shelves, and poles. Rubber nubs on the inside of the clamp prevent scratching and damage to paint or furniture. The clamp has a 5/8" receiver for light stands and a 5/8" stud for gripware like super clamps with matching receivers. The 175F-2 Cold Shoe Clamp is topped with a metal locking shoe mounted on a rotating ball for precise placement of your gear.

Handy clip, but can't cantilever a heavy flash
After a number of years of use, I went to use these the other day to attach a Nikon SB900 and SB910 to C-stands to provide lighting for a holiday photo shoot. The flashes needed to be held cantilevered out in their longest extension from the cold shoe. The attachment point of the cold shoe started opening up as the flashes started to pry the cold shoe off the fitting during the shoot, with the flash bending downward. Also, the twist lock on the ball head (which can only rotate in an arc the axis of which depends on rotation of the ball head on the clip) must be in a particular alignment along the side of the clip to avoid interference with the clip itself, restricting how the ball head and cold shoe can be aligned. My cold shoe fitting and ball head lock look slightly different than the current illustration, so these these issues may have been fixed in the current version.
