Hoodman HoodLoupe Teardrop Eyecup

An upgrade for all HoodLoupe eyecups, the Hoodman HoodLoupe Teardrop Eyecup blocks out ambient light for improved visibility when looking at your camera's LCD screen. The tear drop shape is a natural fit for the contour of your head, creating a complete light seal and offering added comfort. The eyecup emulates eyepieces used on high-end motion picture cameras.

You can mount the Teardrop in seconds by removing your original eyecup and pushing the Teardrop over the viewing end of the HoodLoupe. Since it's mounted on a slip ring, the eyecup stays in place while you're adjusting your diopter and can also spin to right or left eye position.

Hoodman HLVKIT Reviews

Makes my DSLR a serious video camera.

This Hoodman Kit makes my Canon EOS-90D into a very effective video camera. I have yet to put it through its paces in the field, but It appears to be just what I needed to be able to use the live view screen on the back of the camera outdoors . It is well made and easy to install and setup. The hood is easy to remove and replace when desiring to use the camera's eye piece. The hood and mounting hardware does not interfere with access to the camera's controls, battery, SD card, and accessory inputs. I haven't yet tried mounting it with the vertical battery grip installed, but I can't foresee any issues with doing such.

A review specifically for Leica M shooters

This review is for others like me who are shooting Leica M digital cameras and looking for alternatives to hotshoe mounted EVFs for critical focusing assistance. Astigmatism, farsightedness, and a chronically misaligned rangefinder were making it hard for me to achieve critical focus with lenses like the 50mm Summilux (when shot wide open) and the 90mm Summicron. I couldn't use the rear screen to focus because, well, my arms aren't long enough. And I need the hotshoe for my flash trigger. So, I purchased this kit for my M240 to use in the studio. The result is a bit of a tradeoff. On the one hand, I can now easily achieve critical focus with ease using the Hoodman Live View Kit and focus peaking. But this capability comes at a cost. First and foremost, the addition of this kit will make the M significantly less compact! Indeed, with the Hoodman on the back and a 90mm 'cron on the front, it is a real beast that can only really be used effectively on a tripod. M240 shooters will also find it very difficult to use the directional arrows on the right side of the screen since, in order to make room for the buttons on the left, the Hoodman needs to sit slightly off center of the rear screen. This makes reviewing images on the screen tedious, at best. Also--and this is critical for M shooters--the mounting bracket for the Hoodman occludes the photographer's view of the M's optical viewfinder. Presumably one won't be using it if the Hoodman is attached. But this might be problematic for some users. Lastly, if you're shooting with any digital M prior to the M11, you face the annoyance of having to remove the mounting bracket in order to remove the bottom plate of the camera. This is even more annoying if you are using a tripod quick release plate because to remove the Hoodman, you'll need to remove the quick release plate first! That's a lot of fiddling just to access the SD card to retrieve your images. Long story short, if these compromises are reasonable for you, you will find this kit a welcome tool for easily and reliably achieving critical focus with your M camera. I'm still trying to decide if this is a workable long-term solution, or if I need to purchase a camera with a built-in EVF that I can adapt my M lenses to. One thing is for certain: this is the cheaper road to go down! YMMV.
