Yes a 300 will work well, a 600 would give you even more light.

The Aputure Lantern 90 (3') for head and shoulder size scenes for two people should be fine. You might need to move the light back to spread more.

Will this fit the Aputure 300x? Is it a good solution for the 300x or is the other lantern better? Also what are good uses of this lantern compared to the dome modifier which I already have?
It does fit my 300x. The smaller lantern works too, this one is a larger surface area so will result in softer light at the same distance. This one also has a wider coverage angle at the rear part. While the dome is also a soft source, it is more directional. The lantern is more of an omni-directional light so you can light larger areas more smoothly. That being said, the output of the lantern compared to the dome is much less because you're sending light everywhere so I would not expect to be able to light very large spaces with a single 300x. I think this item would be better suited to the higher output lights like the 300d II and the 600d.

There will be lower light output in any one area than if you used a higher powered light but you can certainly use the 60D in the Lantern 90. Depending on what you are trying to light and how much light you need you may need a stronger light.

How do you deal with the rods not spacing out evenly? does not look like photo.
When the light shaping tool is full deployed the rod supports can be shifted into place evenly.
