PortaBrace BK-FX6 Reviews
PortaBrace has gone downhill
to preface, B&H has been awesome throughout the whole transaction, and to be fair PortaBrace attempted to play ball in the beginning, but I will not buy any of their products moving forward. To start with, the pictures of this bag are not the bag you will actually receive. Because this is a made to order item, B&H has no way of verifying what you will be getting until it shows up at your door. When you go to PortaBrace's website even their photos that they advertise DON'T MATCH each other (3 of them look like whats shown here, and the last one is a different bag all together). Our main complaints were that 1. the bottom of the bag does not have the plastic/rubber liner as advertised in these photos (PB says that was the old design and no bags will have this moving forward), which will cause your canvas bag to start to tear in under 1 month of light use. 2. the removable backpack straps, are in fact NOT removable, which will NOT allow you to stow the bag in an overhead bulk compartment when you travel (and NO ONE in their right mind is checking in their camera bag), so get ready to pay for another seat or hope you get lucky and the flight isn't full. 3. the side compartments are also not as advertised. In these photos on B&H AND some of the ones on PortaBrace's website, there is a larger pouch for a light tripod to slide into. The two bags we received did not have this but instead had two smaller pouches (for our use, this was actually better, but again you should be receiving what is advertised and not some random item). It's not all bad though. The bags for the most part fit all our kit (FX-6, Sony Lavs, Shotgun attached to camera, 4 lens (16-35, 24-70,70-200, 50mm), Shogun Ninja V, Batteries, XLR's, white card, media cards) and kept everything relatively safe. The roller wheels are nice and smooth, and chunky so they roll over most any surface. The bag fully loaded is SUPER heavy to use as a backpack, so it's nice to have the rolling option. Fully loaded, they are quite bulky though, so make sure you have enough storage space where ever you keep your kit. After months of back and forth, we returned these bags and bought the Tenba Roller 24 in it's place (much more quality build for slightly less) This would be an awesome bag if it was made as advertised, but alas it is not, and it's too expensive to be replacing every 6mo because the bottom has torn out.
