This Ball Clamp with Both-Side Cutouts and Black T-Knob from Ultralight is used to connect light arms to underwater camera rigs, or arm sections to each other, using 1" mounting balls. The ball recesses on both halves of the clamp have cutouts that allow the arm to be placed in virtually any direction. This clamp measures 1.5" between the centers of the ball recesses. The black anodized T-knob makes tightening and loosening the clamp easy, and it can be useful in the cinema industry for color-coding camera rigs.

Clamps Tear Up Silicone Ball Head O-Rings
I bought a whole set of 7 of these clamps, and 1 of the triple-clamps with the side cutouts as I wanted a little more symmetry to the range of motion of my underwater camera housing's arms. While these have superb manufacturing and work really well, I found that after just 1-2 dives, the cutouts on these clamps started tearing up my Nauticam and Sea and Sea high-quality O-rings. They just aren't suited for the design. If you're planning on using these clamps above water, and aren't holding up heavy items such as large strobes, they may work out for you, but at the cost of frequent ball head o-ring replacement. I just wasted about $400 on new clamps I'll never use.
Versatile
Great for use on camera, a lot more adjustable than the ones without cutouts with only slightly compromised grip because of the smaller surface contacting the ball.
Helpful, But Not Necessary?
I bought six of these ULCS ball clamps with cutouts on both sides to replace my 15-year old clamps without cutouts. They provide limited additional flexibility, depending on which way your arms and clamps are oriented. They work really well with today's smaller strobes (Inon, Sea & Sea, etc.). Very stable. If I was buying new clamps for the first time, I'd definitely get these! If I was on the fence about replacing my older non cutout knobs, I'm not sure it's worth the investment given the limited additional range of flexibility. Great product!
