Roland F701 Overview

The white F701 88-Key Modern Digital Piano with Stand and Bench from Roland is designed to bring adult piano enthusiasts a rewarding playing and practicing experience in a compact, contemporary instrument, crafted with a streamlined, minimal appearance that's well suited to today's interior styles.

Roland's SuperNATURAL sound engine provids a rich, comprehensive sound palatte with 324 different tones to choose from, while the PHA-4 Standard keyboard is touch sensitive and ready to handle all the dynamics and nuances of your performance. The keyboard offers dual, split, and twin piano modes, and you can play through the two built-in 12W speakers or use the headphone jack with 3D enhancement for private sessions. Two USB ports allow you to connect to your computer and add a separately available flash drive for storage. Bluetooth is also onboard for MIDI data or for use as a wireless aux input, so you can play along with your favorite tunes. A 3.5mm aux input for wired connection is also provided.

The included stand offers an integrated triple pedal with damper, soft, and sustenudo for expressive control similar to that of an acoustic piano. Completing the package is a matching piano bench with height adjustment.

Tone and Feel that Reacts to Your Touch
With Roland's acclaimed SuperNATURAL sound engine at its heart, the F701 faithfully reproduces every side of your musical personality, from the boldest fortissimo to the most delicate pianissimo. Adding to the impression of an acoustic piano is the PHA-4 Standard keyboard with hammer action, escapement, and ivory-touch white keys that feel utterly authentic, right down to the distinctive click when each one is played.
Streamlined Operation for an Inspiring Playing Experience
With intuitive controls and an easy-to-read, icon-driven display, the F701 is simple to use and inspiring to play. Ditch the instruction manual, and start exploring over 300 onboard playalong songs, the practice-friendly metronome, and a recording function that lets you evaluate your performance by listening back to what you just played.
Understated Cabinet Design that Complements Your Home
Simple, slim, and subtle, the F701 fits right in with the décor of your home with rounded corners and an integrated piano lid that smoothly slides open to reveal the keys. Even the back has been considered, with neatly arranged rear connections that allow the piano to face in any direction without unsightly wires. And with three color choices, it's easy to find the perfect match for your room: standard black, clean white, or light oak with elegant simulated wood grain.
More Productive Practice with Apps and Bluetooth
With a focus on learning and Bluetooth connectivity, the F701 makes your practice sessions fun and highly productive. Bluetooth audio lets you hook up your smartphone and stream music through the piano speakers and play along, while Bluetooth MIDI makes it easy to access online learning platforms like Skoove and others. Or try Roland's Piano Every Day app with its One Week Master program that helps you learn a new piece of music in a week, complete with automatic recording of your performances to check how you're doing.

Roland F701 Reviews

Best Electronic Piano I ever bought

I've used electronic keyboards for many years since moving to my first apartment. A few years ago, I purchased a Kawai CN201 at a piano store for about $2500. Downstairs I would use an older casio keyboard. One day that keyboard died so I went back to that piano store to buy another Kawai, only to find they stopped carrying them. After a ton of research online and through YouTube, I came across this Roland F701, but did not want to buy it sight unseen. Like a mattress, one cannot buy a keyboard without trying it out. Luckily, being in Northern NJ, I was able to stop by the store and test it out. The sales process was easy, with very helpful salesfolk who did not pressure me, but later emailed me the quote where I could complete the sale from home. I did so and it was delivered perfectly in 2 days. This piano was better suited to my downstairs room because it was compact and looked really cool. As some YouTube commentators said, it looked like a Star Wars tiefighter. Closed, it looked like a regular table, unremarkable, but unassuming. I thought I would be missing some sound as the speakers had a lower wattage than the kawai. But the sound level is absolutely perfect. I usually keep it to about 70%, which is more than sufficient. The action is a little different from the Kawai, but just as good. But what I love more about it is the textured keys. Somehow, this unit, $800 cheaper than the kawai, felt more piano-like. The texture, the response, the pedal action, everything was better. I can't speak to all the voices, as up to now I limit myself to Grand Piano, Bright Piano, and now the Roland electric. I wish I knew about this unit before I bought the Kawai. I find myself enjoying playing this more. It's also fun to open and close it with the cool cover. Now the one complaint I have it that it’s sometimes difficult to place large older piano books in place on the music stand. But those instances are relatively rare. Overall, this is a highly recommend.

Perfect for beginner / intermediate looking for a sleek look

Does the f701 act as an audio interface when connected to a computer via USB?
Asked by: Tim
There are two USB connectors on the Roland F701. One is connect a USB harddrive to record your performance as audio, the other will send MIDI info to you computer. Not Audio.
