Godox S60 Reviews
Installed 3 in a home studio
I chose these for backgrounbd accents for a streaming studio in a very tight space. I wanted fresnels, LED's, low heat, and accurate control of the shape of the beam. I couldn't be happier -- I've used fresnels since the old MR red cans, and these are excellent in every way. Great light quality, great doors, good dimming, small and light. They are bright! I think we have them at 40%, so we could have gone with their S40's, but better to have too much power than too little. These are overlooked and first rate tools.
Thoughts About the Godox S60 LED Focusing Light
Good features of the S60: The light is very bright. It's bright! The housing is metal, (non-magnetic). Focusing is a simple turn knob for wide to narrow beam. Electric cords are heavy duty as are the connections. Power brick AC cord is 16 feet. Cord to Lamp head is 11 feet. Handy steel cable for hanging the power brick with on/off & menu switch. Unit is battery capable. Very low noise from fan, so OK for audio recordings. Bluetooth with app controls brightness, but instructions are lacking in any meaningful way for enabling app which is a separate download. Barn doors are well made and easy to attach. Improvements I'd suggest. Double bracket design for strength. Improve the dial control for brightness even at 1% is way too bright. Dimming from 100% to 50% is hardly visible with almost no effect. Dimming from 50% to 1% seems much more normal and linear. Beware of dust, there is no easy way to clean the inside of the unit, so use a storage cover. Godox should make a light stand holder like the Ikan Power Grip, so the power brick doesn't bang about when hanging on the stand. Overall I recommend this light, however if it was also RGB, Bi-colored, with built-in brick stand holder and detailed app instructions, it would be just about perfect. And with the additional projection accessories you just can't beat this light as a variable beam hard light source. Godox needs USA local warranty support, none as of 2021 that I know of. So when it breaks, what do I do?
