Shure WH20 Overview

The improved version of the WH10, the Shure WH20, is a rugged, lightweight, dynamic headset microphone that provides high-quality voice pickup. It fits securely for active microphone users, such as aerobics instructors and musicians, with low visibility for stage appearances. The WH20 is suitable for any voice communications application where comfort and reliability are required.

The WH20 has a cardioid (unidirectional) pickup pattern. This provides greater gain-before-feedback and isolation from ambient noise and other unwanted sound sources, such as air conditioning, musical instruments, and loudspeakers. A carefully shaped frequency response includes a voice-frequency presence peak and a low-frequency roll off to compensate for the proximity effect inherent in cardioid microphones during close-talk operation. An integrated elastic CROAKIES headband secures the headset comfortably. The headband, wireframe, and gooseneck are adjustable to accommodate any head size or shape.

TA4F connector for Shure bodypack transmitters is included
Lightweight wireframe and headband adjust for a secure, comfortable fit
Extra-strong, small-diameter attached microphone cable resists breakage
Collapsible microphone boom for easy storage and transportation
Smooth, natural frequency response comparable to high-quality dynamic handheld vocal microphones
High input clipping level eliminates overload distortion
Reliable at temperature and humidity extremes

Shure WH20 Reviews

Great sale, good product, great price

I was looking for a headset mic for my drummer so he wouldn't need a boom stand. There are a whole lot of choices and of course Shure has a great reputation so I thought I try their lower priced headset mic. It worked great for backup vocals. A little low on the overall gain so I had to push the volume a little more but for the price and value, it worked fine. Great for speaking but I probably wouldn't use for lead vocals but certainly acceptable for many uses. Shipped fast and packaged well.

Works well for talkback mic.

Is the XLR connection a Mini XLR ?
Asked by: Jeff
The Shure WH20 headset microphone is available with three different types of connectors. B&H# SHWH20QTR has a 1/4" phone connector, B&H# SHWH20XLR has a standard 3-pin male XLR connector, and B&H# SHWH20TQG has a 4-pin female mini XLR connector. The mini XLR version is intended for use with a wireless bodypack transmitter while the XLR and 1/4" connectors are for use with PA system or recorder.

Yes, the WH20 with the XLR connector will work with your Q1202. It is a dynamic mic, so you do not use Phantom Power.

Yes, you can wear headphones while using the WH-20 headset mic. It's a matter of which style headphones are most comfortable for you while wearing the mic. In-ear style headphones will most likely be the easiest to use.

is this compatable for use with the Shure BLX4 wireless system?
Asked by: Raymond
This is designed to plug directly into a mixer. The option of the WH20 that would connect to a BLX bodypack needs a TA4F connector. That can be found here: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/162053-REG/Shure_WH20TQG_WH20TQG_Headworn_Mic.html

question

Will the Shure WH20 Headset Mic with XLR Connector for Balanced Mic Output B&H # SHWH20XLR MFR # WH20XLR work with a Fender Passport 150 Pro?
Asked by: Marshall
It will work. You can plug it directly to one of the mic inputs. I would recommend buying a longer cable or even a wireless system to use it with so you have the freedom to walk around and move with it.

question

How would this perform as a headset mic for football/basketball playcallers? Is the isolation pretty good?
Asked by: Anonymous
This product works well for this application, providing decent off-axis rejection of unwanted ambient sound. Keeping your gain settings a little lower on the bodypack will also help reduce ambient bleed. In particularly loud environments and in sports applications, it may also be helpful to mute or turn off your bodypack between announcements or calls to avoid unwanted speech or noise transmissions between uses.
